There are 6 reasons for anal swelling! How to prevent it? These good habits should be adhered to

Anal distension is a common symptom in anorectal medicine and one of the common complications after anorectal surgery. It manifests as discomfort in the anus and surrounding areas, such as distension, obstruction, pain, etc.

1. What is anal swelling?

Anal heaviness refers to a discomfort symptom that occurs in the rectum, anus, and perineum. Patients often feel a sense of heaviness and fullness in the anus, and sometimes this feeling radiates to the buttocks, lumbar sacral region, and thighs. Accompanying symptoms may include a feeling of foreign body dislocation, anal obstruction, a feeling of tenesmus (i.e., a strong desire to defecate but little or no solid matter is discharged), and a feeling of incomplete defecation. These symptoms often worsen in the afternoon and can be significantly relieved after bed rest.

2. Common causes of anal swelling

1. Hemorrhoids: Especially internal hemorrhoids and mixed hemorrhoids. When the hemorrhoids are large or prolapsed, they can easily pull the anal mucosa and cause a feeling of heaviness and distension in the anus.

2. Rectal prolapse: The mucosal layer of the intestinal wall or rectal wall shifts downward and accumulates in the rectal cavity, but has not yet protruded from the outside of the anus, which can cause anal swelling and a feeling of incomplete defecation.

3. Anal fissure: The skin around the anus is torn due to rough, dry stools or constipation, causing bleeding, pain and inflammation, stimulating the anal nerves and producing a feeling of heaviness and distension.

4. Tumors: Malignant tumors such as anal canal cancer and rectal cancer can compress the rectum, causing symptoms such as anal swelling and incomplete defecation.

5. Digestive system diseases: Intra-abdominal suppurative lesions, proctitis, colitis, etc. can stimulate the rectum, bladder and uterine pouch, leading to anal swelling.

6. Other factors: Bad living habits such as mental stress, excessive force during defecation, sitting or squatting for long periods of time may also cause anal swelling.

3. Prevention of anal swelling

1. Seek medical attention promptly: Once symptoms such as anal swelling occur, you should go to the hospital in time for treatment. After professional examination to determine the cause, targeted treatment can be carried out.

2. Anal swelling is closely related to unhealthy living habits: such as sitting or standing for a long time, maintaining a posture without moving; people with unhealthy eating habits and those who like spicy and heavy flavors are more likely to experience anal swelling.

3. Maintain healthy eating habits: Spicy, raw, cold and other irritating foods are not only harmful to the stomach and intestines, but also prone to diarrhea or constipation, and will also increase the burden on the anus. It is best to eat light food on a daily basis, and eat fresh fruits and vegetables in a timely and appropriate amount to ensure sufficient vitamin C in the body. You can eat coarse grains rich in dietary fiber to help intestinal peristalsis, expel toxins and harmful substances in the body, and prevent constipation.

4. Drug treatment: Depending on the cause of the disease, the doctor may prescribe appropriate drugs for treatment, such as anti-inflammatory drugs, laxatives, etc. But please note that drug treatment should be carried out under the guidance of a doctor.

5. Surgical treatment: For certain diseases, such as severe internal hemorrhoid prolapse, perianal abscess, etc., surgical treatment may be required.

4. Health Tips

Li Wei, deputy chief physician of the anorectal hemorrhoids and fistula clinic at the Hunan Provincial Second People's Hospital (Provincial Brain Hospital), suggested: There are many causes of anal swelling, and from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, most of them are caused by damp heat. Patients can use Huaijiao Pills, Diyu Huaijiao Pills and other medications under the guidance of a doctor. At the same time, keep a light diet and avoid spicy and irritating foods. Special emphasis is placed on: alcohol, betel nut, dog meat, beef and mutton, so as not to aggravate the symptoms. If the symptoms persist or worsen, it is recommended to seek medical attention in time, identify the cause, and receive treatment under the guidance of a doctor.

Deputy Chief Physician Li Wei said: What needs to be mentioned in particular is that for postoperative pain and postoperative anal swelling, the improved long-acting anesthesia is applied, the anesthesia time is as long as 5-7 days, the effective rate is more than 90%, and the excellent and good rate is more than 90%. The main complication of pain can be easily solved.
