Legionella, a hidden health threat in our lives

Legionella, a hidden health threat in our lives

In the invisible world of microorganisms, there is a kind of bacteria called Legionella. It likes humid environments and often hides in water sources to "make trouble."

What are the harms?

It may cause a serious respiratory disease - Legionnaires' pneumonia , which may cause symptoms such as high fever, cough, chest pain, and difficulty breathing. In severe cases, it may even lead to respiratory failure and endanger life.

How does it spread?

It is mainly spread through contaminated water! For example, common cooling towers, air conditioning systems, hot water pipes and showers. If these places are contaminated with Legionella, once water mist is formed (such as water vapor when taking a shower), people may be infected after inhaling it.

What should I do if I unfortunately get infected?

Seek medical attention promptly. Only laboratory testing can confirm whether you are infected.

Take medication as directed by your doctor. You must take antibiotics as directed by your doctor and cannot stop taking them without authorization, otherwise the bacteria may "come back."

Get enough sleep, eat a balanced diet, rest more and stay up late less to ensure sleep quality; eat more fruits, vegetables, porridge, soup and other nutritious foods to help the body recover quickly.

How to prevent it in daily life?

Clean "high-risk areas" regularly : Air conditioners, water heaters, showers and other equipment should be cleaned regularly and in a timely manner to prevent bacteria from finding a nesting ground.

High-temperature water kills bacteria : Legionella is afraid of high temperatures. Keeping the water temperature above 60°C can effectively prevent the growth of Legionella.

Stay away from suspicious water sources : Avoid contact with potentially contaminated water sources. The elderly, children and people with weak immunity should be extra vigilant!

Personal prevention tips

Keep the room ventilated and dry : open windows to ventilate, reduce humidity, and leave no place for Legionella to hide.

Enhance immunity : exercise more, maintain a regular schedule, eat more fruits and vegetables, and you will be able to withstand the stress only if you have a strong body!

Don’t be careless about personal hygiene : wash your hands frequently and wear a mask in crowded places. It’s simple but most effective.

Prevention is better than cure. Start with the details and stay away from the threat of Legionella!
