Why is the car still hot after removing the thermostat? What causes the car to be hot?

Thermostat is an automatic temperature control device used in cars to help adjust the temperature of the engine when it is working, which can save energy. When you encounter the problem of high temperature in the car, the first thing you think of is whether it is a problem with the thermostat. However, after removing the thermostat, the temperature still does not drop. What should you do in this situation?

Why is the car still hot after removing the thermostat?

There are many places that can cause high temperature in a vehicle, not all of which are caused by the thermostat. If the vehicle engine is faulty, even if the thermostat is removed, the high temperature generally cannot be solved.

Under normal circumstances, if the thermostat is removed, the coolant in the cooling system is always in a large circulation state, so the water temperature of the whole vehicle will be low, the temperature rise is slow, and it is difficult to exceed 70 degrees. Therefore, the engine must be equipped with a thermostat to promote the engine to heat up quickly, so that the engine has less wear, low fuel consumption, and strong power.

If the temperature is still high after removing the thermostat, check from two aspects. On the one hand, the engine heat is too high, and on the other hand, the water circulation cooling system is faulty. The vehicle is seriously overloaded, which can cause the engine to heat up. There are also internal reasons for the engine, such as the cylinder head gasket is damaged, and the high-temperature gas in the cylinder directly enters the waterway, then the antifreeze will soon boil. In addition, this phenomenon will also occur if there are cracks in the cylinder and cylinder head (uncommon). At this time, small bubbles or a small amount of engine oil can generally be seen at the water tank filling port.

What causes high temperature in cars?

1. Check if there is any "gas production" in the cooling system

You can first exhaust the air through the vehicle's air bleed valve or remove the water pipe of the small water tank to see if the fault disappears.

2. Check whether the radiator fan is normal

You can test by direct connection to see if the fan itself is faulty. You can also keep the fan directly connected to see if the water temperature rises. If the fan keeps turning and the water temperature is normal, it is the cooling system that is causing the problem. You can check the temperature control switch or the water temperature sensor (the switch that controls the fan rotation when the temperature reaches a certain level).

3. Check whether the circulation system is normal

You can observe whether the antifreeze return pipe is returning water. If it is not returning water, you can check whether the return pipe is blocked, or remove the water pump and check whether the water pump circulation blades are corroded.

4. Check the water pipe pressure

You can pinch the water pipe and refuel when the vehicle is on fire to see if the water pipe hits your hand while refueling. This phenomenon may be caused by a broken cap gasket, resulting in a direct connection between the water channel and the combustion chamber. The water channel is always under pressure, leading to high temperature.

5. Check whether it is a false high temperature

We can check the water temperature data by using a detection computer to see if it is the same as the actual temperature. It may also be a false high temperature caused by a problem with the instrument or water temperature sensor.

Effect of not installing the thermostat on the engine

If the engine is not equipped with a thermostat, it will not have much impact in the summer. The important thing is in the winter. The temperature is relatively low in winter, and the driver will use the heating system when driving. The car's warm air relies on the water temperature of the engine for heating. If there is no thermostat, it means that the water temperature will rise slowly, and the warmth will also be slow. Therefore, when driving in winter, the engine must be equipped with a thermostat, otherwise the car will not be warm. Although some cars have electronic heating function, which can bring warm air, many people do not have electronic heating function.

When the engine is working, the atomization of gasoline is closely related to the temperature. When the engine is cold, the engine will have a warm-up process, the purpose of which is to quickly heat up the engine and make the engine work more thermally efficient. If the thermostat is removed, the engine's thermal efficiency will be reduced. At the same time, the engine will also be more fuel-consuming and difficult to start when cold.
