@COPD patients, please accept this exercise prescription

It is recommended that patients with COPD should do rehabilitation exercises according to their ability and not rush into it.

It usually includes aerobic exercise, breathing exercises and muscle strengthening , which can enhance heart and lung function, improve breathing conditions and improve overall health.

1. Aerobic exercise

Walking: An exercise that can be done anytime and anywhere. Patients can choose a park with fresh air or a street with few cars. Walking can enhance cardiopulmonary function and reduce the burden of breathing.

Jogging: Suitable for patients with mild symptoms, it can improve cardiopulmonary function, but the intensity of exercise needs to be adjusted according to the patient's physical condition.

Practice yoga: Yoga is a relatively soothing exercise that can enhance physical fitness, improve lung function, and also avoid physical fatigue.

Cycling: It can not only exercise your cardiopulmonary function, but also enhance your lower limb strength, but you should avoid excessive fatigue.

Swimming: A whole-body aerobic exercise that enhances cardiopulmonary function and muscle strength while relieving joint stress.

2. Breathing exercises

Deep abdominal resistance breathing function training: a way of breathing that mainly relies on the contraction of the abdominal muscles and diaphragm. It can strengthen diaphragm activity and thus increase lung ventilation.

Each deep breath should be taken as long as possible. Inhale slowly through your nose, then close your lips and exhale . Each inhalation and exhalation time should be controlled to about 15 seconds. After inhaling the air, hold on for 2 to 3 seconds before exhaling slowly.

Each training session can last 10 to 20 minutes, 2 to 3 times a day.

Lying breathing exercise: You can lie on your back, bend your knees, raise your arms and extend them outward, and take a deep breath. Do this 5 to 10 times in each set.

In addition, you can also perform abdominal breathing, bend your knees, place one hand on your chest and the other hand on your abdomen. When you inhale, the abdominal wall bulges, and when you exhale, the abdomen contracts naturally. Do each set 5 to 10 times. This can increase the muscle strength and endurance of the respiratory muscles and reduce signs of chest tightness, shortness of breath, and difficulty breathing caused by the disease.

Pursed lip breathing: Take a comfortable and relaxed position, then close your lips and take a slow, deep breath through your nose until you can no longer breathe in. Then, the patient is advised to make a pursed lip gesture, similar to whistling, and maintain a pursed lip posture, and then exhale slowly.

It is recommended to do the inhalation and exhalation exercise repeatedly several times, without emptying your lungs forcefully. Each training session lasts 10-20 minutes, twice a day.

Singing: You can also choose your favorite songs to sing. When singing, you should control your breathing rhythm and breath, which can increase your lung capacity and help restore lung function.

Blowing balloons: prepare a few balloons, take a deep breath, and slowly blow the gas in the lungs into the balloons through your mouth. Repeat this action multiple times. This can exercise the respiratory muscles and is beneficial to the recovery of lung function.

3. Muscle training

Upper limb exercises: such as chest expansion exercises, can strengthen the upper limbs and shoulders, which is beneficial to restoring lung function.

Lower limb exercise: such as tiptoe exercise, which exercises the lower limbs by standing on tiptoe rhythmically, and incorporates breathing into the exercise to help restore lung function.

Air bike: A full-body muscle exercise that can enhance cardiopulmonary function and muscle strength.

Before starting exercise, it is best to consult a doctor's advice to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the exercise. During the exercise process, patients should follow the principles of gradual progress, avoid strenuous exercise, and persist in exercise, and proceed under the guidance of a doctor.

In addition to the above methods, you can also perform cold resistance exercises to help improve lung function.

To protect your lungs, you must quit smoking and drinking , which is the basis of treatment. At the same time, you also need to avoid inhaling secondhand smoke, haze and other substances that affect lung function.
