Play less with your phone and go out more. This is probably the most common nagging you hear at home. Although you don’t care on the surface, you still quietly turn on the eye protection mode, hoping to protect your eyes through this mode, but in fact it has little effect... When we use a mobile phone, the screen will emit a strong white light, and the white light emitted by the mobile phone is composed of red, green and blue light. The eye protection mode uses software algorithms to highlight the red and green light in the RGB tone and reduce the blue light, thus presenting the yellow light we see. From this point of view, the essence of eye protection mode is actually to filter out some blue light. Blue light is a type of visible light with a wavelength between 400-500 nanometers. It has the characteristics of short wavelength and high energy. It can penetrate the lens of the eye to reach the retina, increase the retinal oxidation reaction, produce harmful free radicals, and damage our eyes. But not all blue light is harmful. Blue light with a wavelength within 415-455 nanometers has been proven to damage the retina in some experiments. Blue light between 455 and 500 nanometers is beneficial and plays an important role in regulating circadian rhythms, producing dark vision, and affecting refractive development. In fact, light sources that harm the human eye are not limited to blue light. Light of other colors can also harm the human eye as long as the intensity is high enough. Blue light is only singled out for public punishment because of its relatively short wavelength and higher energy of a single photon. Eye protection mode reduces the overall brightness and contrast of the screen, and some even adjust the color temperature to a softer level, all of which can relieve eye strain, especially when looking at a phone in the dark. But why do some people still feel uncomfortable with their eyes when they have been using eye protection mode on their phones for a long time? Maybe it's because they rely too much on it! Because for most people nowadays, the main reason for eye discomfort is still using the phone for a long time and at close range, rather than the brightness and contrast of the phone screen. Many people turn on the eye protection mode of their phones and play with their phones without restraint. Over time, the time spent using the phone is getting longer and longer, and the face is getting closer and closer to the screen, so the effect of the eye protection mode on eye protection is very limited. In addition, although the eye protection mode can filter out a small amount of blue light, it cannot completely eliminate it. Moreover, compared with the intensity of blue light in natural light, these blue lights are not worth mentioning. Natural light is the largest source of short-wave blue light that we are exposed to on a daily basis. In particular, qualified electronic products on the market have filtered out harmful short-wave blue light, so the significance of eye protection mode is not very great. It is worth noting that eye protection mode is not suitable to be turned on all the time. Eye protection mode will reduce the brightness of the screen. When using eye protection mode in high-intensity outdoor lighting environment during the day, the eyes need to work harder to see the screen clearly, which will increase eye fatigue. (1) Prone to dry eye syndrome Under normal circumstances, people blink to evenly distribute tears on the surface of the eyes to form a tear film, which has a moisturizing effect. However, when playing with mobile phones, due to excessive concentration, the number of natural blinks is greatly reduced, which affects the formation of tear film and causes symptoms such as dry eyes. (2) Visual fatigue. Looking at the phone for a long time, the flickering screen of the phone can easily irritate the eyes, causing soreness, discomfort and other visual fatigue symptoms. Looking at the phone at a close distance for a long time, especially in a dark or bumpy environment, can easily affect the eye's adjustment function and worsen myopia. (3) Other hidden dangers of eye diseases Many people stay up late to cultivate themselves or use their mobile phones. However, they do not realize that using the eyes in dim light can easily cause the pupils to dilate for a long time, blocking the circulation of fluid in the eyes, damaging our eyes, and easily leading to eye diseases such as glaucoma. Protecting your eyes is multi-dimensional and cannot be achieved by just using the eye protection mode on your phone. Looking into the distance from time to time, walking outside, blinking more to keep your eyes moist, increasing the brightness of the indoor environment, and eating a healthy diet are all essential. Don't ignore other eye protection operations just because you use the eye protection mode. (1) For those who use mobile phones for a long time, it is recommended to adjust the screen brightness to an appropriate level; (2) When using your mobile phone, please maintain a proper posture and distance; (3) It is best to follow the rule of taking a 20-second break after using your eyes for 20 minutes, which will allow you to use your phone without any burden. (4) When your eyes feel tight and tired, you can massage the area around your eyes with clean hands. You can also rotate your eyeballs to relieve eye pressure caused by long-term use of the eyes. (5) When you finish a day's work, you can soak a towel in acceptable hot water and apply it to your eyes before going to bed to relieve the fatigue caused by a day's use of your eyes. These methods can give your tense eyes a break. Eye protection mode can reduce eye fatigue to a certain extent, but it cannot eliminate the eye health problems caused by long-term use of electronic devices. The real eye protection mode is still the same nagging: play less with your phone and go out more! This is the end of this issue.
