How many stomach care misunderstandings have you encountered?

You must know that you can easily come up with a reason, but are the various stomach-nourishing knowledge circulating among the people really correct? Are they really suitable in all situations? However, if you listen to the wrong methods, not only will you fail to achieve the purpose of nourishing your stomach, but you will increase the burden on your stomach!

Myth 1: Eat small and frequent meals to nourish the stomach

Eating less at a time and eating more meals every day seems to help digestion, but in fact, for some patients with stomach problems, eating irregularly and on time is a taboo, and disrupting the eating habits will increase the burden on the stomach. Moreover, it is difficult for some people to control their food intake, which will more or less make the stomach more "tortured". Some experts pointed out that the doctor's advice to some people to eat less and more meals is for those elderly people with decreased gastrointestinal function, as well as some special groups, such as patients who have undergone gastrointestinal surgery or subtotal gastrectomy. Because their gastrointestinal function is reduced, they need to eat less and more meals to reduce the burden of gastrointestinal emptying, otherwise they will have indigestion or even more serious digestive system diseases. If you are a patient with gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, acute gastritis, or acute enteritis, eating less and more meals every day will increase gastric acid secretion, which is not good for gastric mucosal repair and inflammation. Therefore, eating less and more meals requires following the doctor's specific advice for different individuals.

Myth 2: Milk protects gastric mucosa

When some patients with stomach problems experience stomach acid and distension, drinking a cup of hot milk can relieve the symptoms. Some experts point out that this is because milk can dilute gastric acid, and the protein in milk can form a protective film on the surface of the gastric mucosa, making people feel comfortable. But this protective film is also fleeting. Studies have shown that after patients with gastric ulcers drink milk, due to the high calcium ion concentration, gastric acid secretion will increase, thereby aggravating the damage to the gastric mucosa. Therefore, it is necessary to be cautious when drinking milk when suffering from stomach problems, and it is best to drink it after the condition is stable and the body recovers. There are many folk methods of nourishing the stomach, and they are also effective. However, many people know these methods but do not know why, which leads to misuse. Therefore, nourishing the stomach varies from person to person.

Myth 3: Long-term consumption of porridge helps nourish the stomach

It cannot be denied that some patients with gastric diseases (such as gastric mucosal damage, gastric ulcer, etc.) can achieve the effect of nourishing the stomach by drinking porridge. However, it is not suitable for some patients with gastric diseases, such as patients with gastroesophageal reflux. Porridge is a fluid, and drinking it will aggravate gastroesophageal reflux. Therefore, it is very undesirable to drink porridge to nourish the stomach without making a clear diagnosis of the type of gastric disease. "Compared with other foods, porridge is soft and rotten, and it is less irritating to the stomach. Therefore, it is beneficial for people with severe gastric diseases and patients in the acute stage of gastritis to drink porridge, but long-term drinking of porridge is another matter." Some experts pointed out that there is more water in porridge, which will dilute gastric juice, and porridge often occupies a large volume, which is easy to cause stomach expansion. Both will degenerate or weaken the digestive function of the stomach, and if the stomach adapts to this soft and rotten food for a long time, it may not be easy to accept or adapt to other types of food. In addition, if you often drink porridge without chewing, it will inhibit the secretion of salivary amylase, which will not only reduce the digestibility of food in the mouth and increase the burden on the stomach, but also affect the digestion and absorption of food in the stomach and intestines.

Myth 4: People with bad stomachs cannot drink tea

Doctors will advise patients with gastritis, erosion, and ulcers not to drink tea, especially strong tea, because tea polyphenols can irritate the gastric mucosa. New green tea, in particular, has a higher content of tea polyphenols, which can cause greater irritation to the stomach.

However, not all teas are not drinkable. Cooked teas such as Pu'er tea and black tea are actually helpful to the stomach. But remember not to drink on an empty stomach and do not drink strong tea because it contains caffeine, which can irritate the gastric mucosa.
