Disease Knowledge | I feel anxious because the holidays are almost over. Is it a thyroid problem?

Today I saw a topic about thyroid on Weibo. The top content seemed to have written down all the symptoms related to thyroid, which would inevitably make people feel anxious. In fact, if no thyroid problems have been diagnosed in the past, the most important thing to pay attention to is three keywords: heart, emotion, and knot.

1. Heart, that is, heart rhythm

The diseases most directly related to the thyroid gland are hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. Either type may cause cardiovascular problems. For example, hyperthyroidism may cause arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation, tachycardia (in severe cases), etc.; while hypothyroidism may lead to weakened heart function, including bradycardia.

2. Emotion, i.e. emotional changes

It doesn't mean that if you don't want to go to work today or have a fight with your best friend or gay friend, you have a thyroid problem. The hormonal changes after a thyroid problem can significantly affect your mood and cause drastic mood swings, such as obvious anxiety, depression, or changes in mental state.

3. Nodule, that is, thyroid enlargement or nodule

This may involve discussing the issue of cancer. If you find a lump or swelling in your neck, especially if it is growing rapidly, you must see a doctor as soon as possible.

At the same time, a reassurance: the five-year survival rate of papillary thyroid cancer (accounting for more than 80%) is 98% to 99%; the five-year survival rate of follicular thyroid cancer (accounting for 10% to 15%) is about 97%; the five-year survival rate of medullary thyroid cancer in the thyroid gland (about 3% to 4%) is about 75% to 85% - in short, with timely detection and treatment, almost all thyroid cancer patients can be basically cured.

To sum up, on the one hand, the symptoms related to thyroid disease exist in daily life or overlap with symptoms of other diseases, so there is no need to worry; on the other hand, if the above three aspects are more obvious, then you should see a doctor as soon as possible so that effective treatment can be carried out as soon as possible.

Even if it is really cancer, most of them can be cured, so you must not be afraid to seek medical treatment when facing thyroid disease!

(By the way, many people have asked whether they can get vaccinated while taking "Levothyroxine Sodium": As long as their health is stable and there is no obvious discomfort or other complications, they can get vaccinated normally without stopping the medication.)
