This kind of eye disease "stealing feeling" is very serious

Our eyes are very fragile. Many eye diseases can lead to decreased vision or even blindness if not treated in time. Among them, glaucoma is called the thief of vision. Due to its hidden onset, it can steal your vision without you knowing it.

What is glaucoma?

There is an optic nerve behind each eyeball, which transmits external objects seen to the visual center of the brain. Glaucoma is mainly caused by a long-term and slow increase in intraocular pressure that exceeds the limit that the optic nerve can tolerate, causing the optic nerve fibers to be gradually lost, thereby losing the function of transmitting external information, leading to loss of vision and eventually blindness. It is an irreversible blinding eye disease.

Glaucoma can steal your vision

There are many types of glaucoma. Acute angle-closure glaucoma is extremely painful during an attack and is therefore easier to detect and diagnose. Chronic angle-closure glaucoma and open-angle glaucoma are hidden diseases, and most patients in the early stages have no obvious symptoms. However, damage to the optic nerve and loss of visual field are quietly progressing . By the time most patients are diagnosed, obvious optic nerve damage has already occurred, leading to irreversible vision loss and visual field loss.

Director Li Fuhua of Tianjin University Aier Eye Hospital said that with the current medical level, the optic nerve damage caused by glaucoma is irreversible, that is to say, patients can only retain their existing vision through treatment, and the lost vision will be difficult to recover, so early diagnosis and treatment are extremely important.

High-risk groups for glaucoma

1. Family history of glaucoma

2. Diabetic patients

3. People aged 35 and above who have not had an eye examination for a long time

4. Eye injury or other eye disease

5. Patients with high myopia or high hyperopia

Warm reminder: Glaucoma is somewhat hereditary. The above high-risk groups must maintain good eye habits and undergo regular eye examinations.
