Chinese Medicine Half Monthly Talk | Raspberry

If sales and promotion are not just a pure exchange of goods, but can also establish a warm interaction from a humanistic level, then it will reach a higher level. The following old scene is an example:

An old man went to a grocery store to buy a chamber pot. He looked around and was not satisfied with the only chamber pot he had: "This one is a bit too big!" The salesperson did not praise the quality of his products, nor did he say that other styles were not available nearby. He just faced the old man and whispered: "In winter, the nights are long!" The old man nodded, paid, took the goods, and left with satisfaction.

The saying "the nights are long in winter" reveals the fact that the elderly often urinate at night. Here I am going to talk about a Chinese medicine related to urination reduction, because the name of this Chinese medicine is also full of humanistic care. It is a fruit Chinese medicine - raspberry. The word "pen" in the name actually refers to the "urinal". What does this mean?

Raspberry is the name of a wild fruit. The reason for naming it is related to its healing effect. The discovery of its efficacy first came from an old man in the wild. In ancient times, there was an old farmer who often went up the mountain to work. There was a kind of wild fruit growing in the mountains, which looked quite cute and was edible. So the old man often ate the fruit after working, and it seemed to quench thirst and fatigue after eating it. The old man was old and had the problem of frequent urination at night, but since he often ate this wild fruit, the number of times he got up at night has actually decreased, and his energy is obviously more abundant than before. This fruit turns out to have such a magical effect! The old man couldn't help but tell others about it, and then it spread from one to ten, and from ten to a hundred, and this fruit was known and eaten by more and more people.

Fresh raspberries are composite fruits. Their leaves are green, while the ripe fruits are red, just like a smaller version of a strawberry. The distinct green and red features were written into the poem "Raspberries" by Wang Youcheng, a poet in the Song Dynasty:

The spiritual roots flourish throughout the eternal summer, and the secluded paths are surrounded by deep bushes.

The crystal is bright and shiny, and the leaves and fruits are green and red.

Searching for morning dew, picking by diligent village children.

Use the sheaths of smoked bamboo shoots and store them in frosty bamboo baskets.

In the poem, the poet describes the growth of raspberries and the life scenes of farm children picking raspberries, which are both hard work and warm and joyful. Raspberries, as a wild fruit, only like to grow in the wild, with luxuriant roots, entrenched in quiet trees and grass. The scenery is most beautiful in the early morning, with dew shining on its branches and leaves, and red fruits dotted among the green leaves, the green of the leaves set off the red of the fruits. When it comes to the harvest season, rural children do not hesitate to brave the morning dew and happily pick them in the woods. The raspberries put into the basket also take in the dew, frost, smoke and clouds of nature. The poet expresses his yearning for a beautiful pastoral life by describing raspberries.

Raspberry, also known as "Pengwu" in ancient times, is also its alias. Its small fruit contains the energy to cure diseases. This gift from nature has also been accepted and used by Chinese medicine practitioners. "Shennong's Herbal Classic" records: "Pengwu, tastes sour and flat. It calms the five internal organs, benefits the essence and qi, strengthens the yin and makes it strong, strengthens the will, doubles the strength, and has children. Long-term use will make the body light and not old. It is also called raspberry." Some patients have particularly severe frequent urination and can hardly leave the urinal. Chinese medicine explains that this is because the patient's kidney yang is deficient, the gasification ability is reduced, and the water cannot be absorbed and urine can only be "released" again and again. In view of kidney yang deficiency and frequent urination, raspberries were used for patients, and the results were just right. This medicine helped patients improve kidney yang, strengthen kidney qi, and reduce frequent urination, so they don't have to get up frequently at night to urinate. The urinal was put aside and became a "useless thing", so some people called this fruit "raspberry". Perhaps in order to prevent some people from believing it, Kou Zongshi of the Song Dynasty clearly recorded it in "Bencao Yanyi": Raspberry "benefits the kidneys, reduces urination, and when taken, one should cover the urinal, hence the name."

Through the continuous accumulation of experience in using medicine, Chinese medicine has concluded that raspberry is sweet, sour and warm in nature, and has a neutral nature. It is a good medicine that can replenish the kidney yang of the human body. It has the effects of replenishing the kidney and consolidating essence, curing impotence, and reducing urination. It can be used to treat kidney deficiency and impotence, spermatorrhea and premature ejaculation, frequent urination, and enuresis in children. Since it is for consolidating essence and reducing urination, its sour and astringent properties must be fully utilized, hoping to keep more green and astringent for better astringent effect, so the medicinal material is harvested from its nearly mature fruits.

Kou Zongshi's "Compendium of Materia Medica" not only mentioned that raspberries "benefit the kidneys", but also mentioned that it has the effect of "diminishing urination". This is a statement that has never been made in previous generations, and its function of diminishing urination has since become known to the world. It can originally dilute urination, but if someone has difficulty urinating, using raspberries is obviously "adding insult to injury". Li Zhongzi of the Ming Dynasty emphasized in "Compendium of Materia Medica" that "raspberries are astringent, and those who have difficulty urinating should not use them."

If we look for the famous raspberry recipe from the clues of seed-based medicinal materials, the famous Wu Zi Yan Zong Wan is the best. This recipe from "She Sheng Zong Miao Fang" uses raspberry and five seed-based medicinal materials, namely Schisandra chinensis, Cuscuta chinensis, Plantago asiatica and Lycium barbarum. They are collectively called "five seeds". After being matched, they can play the role of nourishing the kidney and replenishing essence, can treat impotence and infertility, and enable people to continue their family line, so the recipe is named "Wu Zi Yan Zong Wan".
