Getting angry not only hurts your liver, but also your eyes

It is inevitable to encounter some unpleasant things in life. Some people will vent their emotions by getting angry. However, frequent anger not only damages organs such as the liver and heart, but may also cause a blinding eye disease - glaucoma.

What is glaucoma?

Glaucoma is a common blinding eye disease worldwide, mainly caused by increased intraocular pressure leading to damage to the optic nerve. Glaucoma blindness is the result of optic nerve damage, which is closely related to increased intraocular pressure.

Intraocular pressure is the pressure exerted on the wall of the eye by the contents of the eye (aqueous humor, lens, vitreous). The aqueous humor has the greatest impact on intraocular pressure. The normal range of intraocular pressure is 10-21 mmHg.

There are many types of glaucoma, the most common of which are primary glaucoma, secondary glaucoma and congenital glaucoma. The causes of glaucoma include trauma, heredity, excessive fatigue, dark room environment and chronic systemic diseases.

The dangers of glaucoma

The symptoms and signs of glaucoma vary depending on the type and severity. Early symptoms may include blurred vision, headaches, eye swelling, etc. In the late stage, there may be a reduction in visual field, and in severe cases, even blindness. When acute glaucoma occurs, the patient may become completely blind within 24-48 hours.

Anger is one of the causes of glaucoma

Li Fuhua, director of Tianjin University Aier Eye Hospital, said that if there are problems with the anatomical structure of the eye, such as a shallow anterior chamber, a small cornea, a relatively large lens, etc., the patient will be emotionally agitated when angry, which can easily lead to increased aqueous humor secretion and pupil dilation, thus inducing glaucoma. Therefore, glaucoma patients should usually keep a good mood and avoid being too emotional.
