It "disguised" itself as swollen tonsils, but the truth turned out to be...

I just felt a sore throat, but the pathological result turned out to be a tumor! Doctors remind: Unilateral tonsil enlargement can also be a fatal disease.

"How could it be a tumor? I'm obviously in good health" -

Ms. Zhou (pseudonym), 41 years old, who lives in Beichen District, felt a foreign body in her throat not long ago. It felt like something was blocking her throat when she swallowed. She thought it was spring fever, but after two days, she found that the symptoms had not subsided. That morning, Ms. Zhou took a mirror and used her mobile phone flashlight to look at it. She was frightened. The tonsil on the right side was visibly "swollen". Ms. Zhou rushed to the ENT clinic of Beichen Hospital near her home for treatment.

After a detailed interview and laryngoscopy, the doctor had a bad feeling, "Your tonsils are unilaterally swollen. It is recommended that you have surgery to remove the swollen tonsils and do a pathological examination to further confirm the diagnosis ." After discussing with her family, Ms. Zhou agreed to the doctor's advice. After sufficient preoperative preparation, the otolaryngology team performed endoscopic plasma tonsillectomy on Ms. Zhou.

The postoperative pathological result was considered to be "diffuse large B-cell lymphoma". This is a result that no one wants to see, and even Ms. Zhou herself can't believe it, because she is in good health and has no other symptoms except swollen tonsils. However, fortunately, Ms. Zhou went to the doctor and was diagnosed in time, and has now started chemotherapy.

This disease progresses quickly, so it must be detected and treated early.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is the most common aggressive type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
[ What symptoms can be identified? ] Its symptoms can be roughly divided into two types: intra-lymph node symptoms and extra-lymph node symptoms .
1. Symptoms in lymph nodes:

2. Extra-lymph node symptoms:

1. Invasion of the gastrointestinal tract: abdominal pain, abdominal distension, abdominal mass, vomiting blood and bloody stool, etc.

2. Invasion of tonsils or oropharynx: sore throat, difficulty swallowing, and swollen tonsils.

3. Invasion of the skin and subcutaneous soft tissue: skin nodules, lumps, and ulcers.

4. Invasion of the liver and spleen: enlarged liver and spleen (such as abdominal lumps), jaundice (yellowing and itching of the skin).

5. Invasion of the lungs: cough, chest tightness, shortness of breath, atelectasis or superior vena cava compression syndrome (vomiting, hoarseness, difficulty swallowing, etc.).

6. Invasion of the kidneys: kidney enlargement, hypertension, renal insufficiency and nephrotic syndrome (oliguria, edema, etc.).

7. Invasion of bones: bone pain, damage to the thoracic and lumbar spine, and even spinal cord compression, which causes limb movement, sensation, reflexes, and sphincter function (incontinence) below the compression plane.

Why do you get diffuse large B-cell lymphoma?

The cause of the disease is still unclear, but some studies suggest that it may be related to the following factors.

1. Preventable factors: 1. Viral infection. 2. Weak immune function. 3. Other factors such as increased environmental pollution and the use of food additives.

2. Factors that are difficult to prevent: genetic disease. [Attention!!!]

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is aggressive and progresses rapidly , but the treatment effect is good . If you feel a lump, it is recommended to go to a regular hospital for further examination in time. Pathological biopsy is the gold standard for diagnosis.
