Is vision training useful? It's not just myopia that affects children's vision

Monitoring data from the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention show that the overall myopia rate among children and adolescents in my country was 51.9% in 2022, a decrease of 0.7 percentage points from 2021 (52.6%), and a decrease of 1.7 percentage points compared with the results of the national myopia survey in 2018 (53.6%). my country's myopia prevention and control work has achieved positive results.

But in fact, it is not just myopia that affects the vision of children aged 0-6. Binocular vision is also very important. When your child is reading, he cannot focus his eyes and feels that the words on the book are flying? When watching 3D movies, there is no three-dimensional sense and the pictures are "ordinary"? These may be problems with the visual function of the eyes!

What are the symptoms of binocular vision dysfunction?

1. Visual fatigue is a common symptom of binocular vision abnormality, which manifests as eye pain, dry eyes, sore eyes, tearing, headache and nausea.

2. Dyslexia, inability to focus on close objects, and lack of concentration.

3. Poor sports vision ability and poor control of visual behavior during exercise, etc.

4. For children and adolescents, it may cause accommodation lag and lead to rapid growth of myopia.

5. The lack of stereoscopic vision will affect normal driving (unable to judge complex traffic conditions) and make it difficult to perform fine operations.

What should I do if there is a problem with my visual function?

If visual function abnormalities are found, the first thing to do is to correct the refraction, wear appropriate glasses, and wear special glasses with prisms or near-additions when necessary. If wearing glasses still cannot solve the problem, visual training is required.

Visual training refers to the use of optical or psychophysical methods to train binocular accommodation, convergence, eye movement and coordination of the two eyes, thereby improving the application ability of the binocular visual system and improving visual dysfunctions such as visual fatigue, eye movement disorders, and dyslexia. It is also helpful for pseudomyopia in adolescents and is also a common method for children with binocular visual dysfunction.

Ophthalmologists remind that children's binocular vision function gradually improves from the age of 3, and they can cooperate with learning to read the eye chart. At this time, parents can take their children to professional ophthalmology medical institutions for eye health examinations, establish children and adolescents' refractive development files, and understand their children's eye conditions more timely, so as to protect their children's eyes in a targeted manner.
