If you have the following 9 symptoms, be careful of blinding eye diseases!

There are no obvious symptoms in the early stage, and it is very hidden. However, in an acute attack, the patient can become completely blind within 24-48 hours. This is glaucoma . As an irreversible blinding eye disease, most patients do not know that they have glaucoma, and some patients are already in the middle and late stages when they come to the hospital for treatment, resulting in a gradual reduction and loss of visual field, accompanied by a decrease in vision.

How does glaucoma occur?

Director Li Fuhua of Tianjin University Aier Eye Hospital said that glaucoma is an irreversible blinding eye disease caused by a relative or absolute increase in intraocular pressure that exceeds the tolerance of the optic nerve, resulting in optic nerve damage and visual field loss.

When acute glaucoma occurs, the patient may become completely blind within 24-48 hours. It can be seen that the occurrence and development of glaucoma are closely related to the level of intraocular pressure.

Intraocular pressure is the pressure exerted on the wall of the eye by the contents of the eye (aqueous humor, lens, vitreous). The aqueous humor has the greatest impact on intraocular pressure. The normal range of intraocular pressure is 10-21 mmHg.

Under normal circumstances, the amount of aqueous humor produced and discharged is in dynamic balance. If the channel for the discharge of aqueous humor is blocked, or the amount of aqueous humor produced increases for some reason, it can lead to the accumulation of aqueous humor and increase the intraocular pressure.

When should patients be alert and seek medical attention promptly?

You should be alert when you experience these nine symptoms: eye swelling and pain, headache and eye pain, blurriness, fear of light, iridescence, hardened eyeballs, eye congestion, nausea and vomiting, eye fatigue, decreased vision, and narrow field of vision .

As we all know, for many chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, early detection can lead to better treatment. The same is true for glaucoma, so when these symptoms appear, we need to see a doctor in time and have an eye examination.

The visual damage caused by glaucoma is irreversible, so early detection and early treatment are the key, which can enable most patients to maintain useful visual function throughout their lives.
