Clearing throat, excessive phlegm, dryness, itching and burning pain, is it caused by chronic nasopharyngitis?

Do you often feel that there is always mucus in the back of your nasal cavity that you can't blow out or swallow?

Do you often feel that there is sticky phlegm flowing down the back of your throat and you can never spit it out completely?

Are you unable to tell where the dry, itchy and burning area is? What is the place where the throat and nasal cavity meet called? You can't see it or touch it, but it just hurts.

Friends with this problem are very common in otolaryngology clinics. It is very likely that they all have the same disease - chronic nasopharyngitis.

Lao Wang has been suffering from throat discomfort since he had an orgasm last year. Whenever he talks about his troubles with others, he can't describe the specific location of the discomfort. It seems to be in his nose or in his throat. It feels like there is always a piece of sticky phlegm stuck there, crawling down at a very slow rate, which drives him crazy. Every morning when he wakes up, he will shrink his nose hard, but nothing comes out. This situation is sometimes mild and sometimes severe. When it is mild, it is just dry and itchy, or a little foreign body sensation. When it is severe, there is a burning sensation or dull pain.

Finally, on a sunny morning, Lao Wang decided to go to the hospital for a thorough check-up. He walked into the ENT clinic and described his symptoms in detail to the doctor. The ENT doctor listened patiently and nodded from time to time to show his understanding.

After a preliminary consultation, the doctor said that Lao Wang's condition was a bit like chronic nasopharyngitis. Lao Wang also heard of this disease for the first time. In his impression, he only knew about rhinitis and pharyngitis, but had never heard of nasopharyngitis. In order to confirm the diagnosis, the doctor arranged some examinations, mainly nasal endoscopy.

Lao Wang was a little confused. "I just have a sore throat, why do I need to check my nose?"

The doctor smiled and explained, "Think about it, is the area where you feel uncomfortable particularly on the upper part? I suspect that the lesion that is bothering you is in the nasopharynx. We cannot see the location of the nasopharynx from the outside. It is located at the junction of the pharyngeal cavity and the nasal cavity, that is, at the very back of the nasal cavity and the very top of the pharynx. If you look from the oral cavity, the nasopharynx is blocked by the soft palate and uvula, so we usually use a nasal endoscope to extend through the nose for examination. Don't worry, the nasal endoscope will be inserted through the gap in the nasal cavity, and it won't hurt at all."

Although Lao Wang understood, he was still a little nervous, but he still completed the examination according to the doctor's instructions.

In the endoscopy room, the ENT doctor was watching the nasopharynx video, holding the report, and carefully explaining to Lao Wang, "Look, this is the condition of your nasopharynx. The mucosa here is obviously congested, and the lymph follicles on the surface are proliferating. There are some erosions and ulcers in some places, and there are a lot of secretions attached to them. Especially here, it may have just bled, and there are some blood mixed in the secretions."

"Oh, that's right, doctor. These past two days, my tears have been streaked with blood every morning when I wake up. I get very nervous when I see the blood. So this is the reason!" Old Wang suddenly realized.

The doctor continued to explain: "Yes, Mr. Wang, this is indeed the reason why you have blood in your mucus in the morning. From your examination results, the disease you have is chronic nasopharyngitis."

Lao Wang was finally relieved by the test results, but he still had a question in his mind: Why did he get this disease, and was it related to the previous "excessive erection"?

The ENT doctor saw Lao Wang's doubts and explained to him in detail. Generally speaking, the causes of chronic nasopharyngitis are more complicated. Some common pathogenic factors include:

1. Prolonged infection: Viral infection is a common cause of nasopharyngitis, such as colds and flu; similarly, bacterial infection may also develop into chronic nasopharyngitis. It is possible that Lao Wang developed these symptoms after "passing out". Chronic nasopharyngitis is actually similar to chronic tonsillitis, and both are related to repeated infections that cannot be cured.

2. Allergies: For example, allergies to certain substances (such as pollen and dust mites) can trigger an immune response and lead to symptoms of nasopharyngitis, which is actually similar to allergic rhinitis.

3. Environmental factors: Long-term exposure to pollutants, chemical gases or smoke environments may stimulate chronic inflammation of the nasopharynx.

4. Lifestyle habits: Long-term smoking, drinking and other bad habits will also increase the risk of chronic nasopharyngitis.

5. Abnormal nasopharyngeal structure: Structural problems such as deviated nasal septum and adenoids hypertrophy may hinder normal ventilation and drainage and cause chronic nasopharyngitis.

Lao Wang counted the possible causes of the disease and estimated that at least two or three of them were among them. He thought that it was no wonder that the disease had not been cured.

The doctor developed a personalized treatment plan for Lao Wang, including medication and lifestyle adjustments. Lao Wang also made up his mind to change his lifestyle to create better conditions for recovery.

One month later, Wang's symptoms gradually eased. He felt that the burning and pain in his nasopharynx were no longer so severe, his breathing became smoother, and he cleared his throat less frequently. Although he still felt a little uncomfortable occasionally, it was much better than before.

After going through the diagnosis and treatment of chronic nasopharyngitis, Lao Wang has become more positive about health issues in his life. He always remembers what the ENT doctor said to him: "For a disease like chronic nasopharyngitis, taking medicine is only temporary. I am just giving you a hand. The ultimate recovery still depends on you paying attention to your life!"
