The man had a quarrel with his wife and suddenly lost his sight...

The man suffered from diabetes but had not taken his medicine for several days. He also had an argument with his wife over a trivial matter. Unexpectedly, he suddenly felt dizzy and could not see. He "argued" himself into the hospital.

Recently, Mr. Song (pseudonym), 40, was taken to the Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University by his family. Li Xiangyun, deputy chief physician of the hospital's fundus disease department, found that Mr. Song had large hemorrhages in the vitreous of his right eye and could not see clearly. After photocoagulation laser treatment of the left eye, vitrectomy surgery of the right eye and intraocular injection treatment, Mr. Song's condition was well controlled.

It turned out that Mr. Song was a diabetic patient and his blood sugar had always been well controlled. However, he missed taking his blood sugar-lowering medication for a few days before the incident, and had an argument with his wife. Unexpectedly, he almost caused a disaster.

Why did the fundus suddenly bleed just because of a quarrel? Li Xiangyun explained that Mr. Song's blood sugar fluctuated greatly in the past few days, and the emotional excitement during the quarrel made his blood sugar and blood pressure fluctuate more violently, causing retinal blood vessels to rupture and trigger fundus bleeding. Fortunately, he sought medical treatment in time. If the fundus bleeding was not controlled, it would probably cause blindness.

It is understood that fundus hemorrhage is mostly caused by hypertension, diabetes, retinal vascular occlusion or abnormal immune function, and is common in hypertensive retinopathy, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, and inflammatory lesions around the retinal vein. "Diabetic fundus hemorrhage has a long course and is prone to recurrence. It often causes serious eye complications such as proliferative retinopathy and neovascular glaucoma. Diabetic patients must pay attention to blood sugar control and must not stop taking medication without authorization. Once fundus hemorrhage occurs, it must be actively treated to improve fundus microcirculation." Li Xiangyun said.
