The unbearable pain and itchiness of winter - frostbite

The Spring Festival is approaching. Are you itching to enjoy the short holiday?

In addition to the itch for the holiday around the Spring Festival, there is another kind of itch that is also very unbearable

it often appears on the ears

Sometimes on the fingers

And on the toes

Even on the face.

I want to scratch it when it itches, and it hurts when I touch it

It makes people itch and happy and painful

What exactly is frostbite? Why do people get frostbite?

Let me explain frostbite in one sentence: frostbite is a localized skin inflammation caused by exposure to low temperatures above freezing and high humidity. Its main clinical manifestations are red to purple macules, papules or plaques. [1]

Careful readers should have discovered that frostbite often occurs at the extremities. When the outside temperature drops and is detected by the skin, the blood vessels will constrict, reducing the blood supply to the extremities to minimize heat loss and leave more heat for important organs.

Could it be that frostbite has something to do with blood circulation and blood vessels?

Modern medicine has proven that the fundamental cause of frostbite is that when the smooth muscles in the capillaries of the distal subcutaneous veins on the body surface spasm when encountering low temperatures, the permeability of the blood vessels is reduced, causing blood to stagnate and resulting in frostbite. This is the fundamental reason why frostbite will show bruising.

Now that we have a simple understanding of the causes of frostbite, methods to prevent frostbite are also readily available.

1. Exercise regularly to promote blood circulation and get the blood flowing at the extremities.

2. Adjust your diet to allow your body to take in enough calories to fight the cold

3. Keep warm, wear gloves, earmuffs, and warm shoes and socks. This method is simple and effective.

4. Drug protection, use frostbite cream, mink oil, etc. to protect the skin

If you have frostbite and it is painful and itchy, do not use too hot water to irritate the skin, and do not scratch the affected area with your hands. You should seek medical attention in time and use medication under the guidance of a doctor. (Generally, the treatment period will not be too long)

Finally, I wish everyone can avoid frostbite and spend a safe winter.
