Girl's abnormal vision during physical examination was not taken seriously and turned into amblyopia

At the age of 8, his myopia is as high as 500 to 600 degrees. This distressing vision condition stems from ignored physical examination signals. Recently, the Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University reminded parents to pay attention to their children's physical examination indicators at school.

Lele (pseudonym), 8 years old this year, lives in Huangpi. Because his parents work away from home, Lele has been living with his grandparents. Last semester, during the school physical examination, Lele was found to have abnormal vision. When his grandparents learned the results of the examination, they did not take it seriously.

A few days ago, Lele's parents, who had returned to Wuhan from other places, found that Lele always watched TV very close and liked to squint his eyes, so they took Lele to the Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University for treatment.

After examination, Lele's right eye had 625 degrees of myopia, 50 degrees of astigmatism, and a corrected visual acuity of 0.7, and his left eye had 575 degrees of myopia, 100 degrees of astigmatism, and a corrected visual acuity of 0.7. Cai Chunyan, deputy chief physician of the hospital's strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology department, learned that Lele had been diagnosed with abnormal vision half a year ago and said that Lele's failure to correct myopia in time led to poor eye development and amblyopia, and he currently needs glasses for correction.

Cai Chunyan said that once a child's vision is abnormal, he or she should be taken to a professional ophthalmology hospital for examination as soon as possible and timely intervention should be given. After adolescents and children are diagnosed with true myopia, if they do not wear glasses or intervene, it will increase eye fatigue, cause the eye's convergence ability to lose balance, and affect the normal development of vision. Some patients with severe refractive errors may also suffer from amblyopia, strabismus, and stereoscopic vision impairment if they do not wear glasses in time. Regardless of whether a child is myopic or not, he or she can go to a professional medical institution for regular examination every six months.
