Vaginal swelling in late pregnancy

Vaginal swelling in late pregnancy

When it comes to the late stages of pregnancy, it becomes very difficult for pregnant women to carry out daily movements and bend over, so for the sake of their own health and to reduce their tolerance, pregnant women in the late stages of pregnancy will try not to exercise. However, in the late stages of pregnancy, any abnormal conditions that occur in pregnant women must not be ignored. Some pregnant women find that their genitals suddenly swell. So what causes vaginal swelling in late pregnancy?

*Varicose veins (a more common cause)

Normally, in the late stages of pregnancy, the blood flow in the pelvis of most pregnant women will increase significantly. However, as the enlarged uterus compresses the inferior vena cava, the pressure in the inferior vena cava will increase, blood return will be blocked, and the venous wall will expand and twist, forming varicose veins, which will cause edema of the vulva or lower limbs. However, since there is generally no pain, many mothers may not be aware of this change in their bodies.

* Candida infection

However, if in addition to swelling of the vulva, pregnant mothers find that there are also symptoms such as itching, pain, and abnormal vaginal discharge, it is very likely that the inflammation is caused by Candida infection. At this time, pregnant mothers need to go to the hospital for testing and treatment in time.

How to reduce swelling:

*If the mother feels obvious discomfort, she can lie in bed and rest for a while. Generally, the swelling will disappear after delivery. In addition, you can clean it with potassium permanganate solution before going to bed every night, and then apply hot compress for about 10 minutes. You should pay attention to changing your underwear frequently and try to choose loose and breathable underwear.

*If you still need to work in the later stages of pregnancy, it is best for pregnant mothers to apply for a reduction in workload or a job transfer, especially for positions that require standing for long periods of time, such as service staff.

*When sitting on a chair or sofa, do not cross your legs or cross your legs to avoid obstructing venous return and aggravating swelling. You can raise your legs a little when you sleep at night to avoid pressure on your vulva. If you choose to lie on your side, it is best to put a pillow between your legs to reduce the pressure on your vulva.
