The diving grandpa from Tianjin has become a hot topic on the Internet, and orthopedic doctors can’t sit still: Unscientific diving = jumping off a building!

Recently, the Tianjin diving grandpa has become popular on the Internet, and the diving location, Lion Grove Bridge, has become a popular check-in spot. But the hot search shows that the Tianjin grandpa no longer has time to dive. According to media reports, several veteran members of the Lion Grove Bridge diving team no longer have time to dive. They maintain order on the bridge and persuade inexperienced young people not to jump.

Unscientific diving = jumping off a building

On September 2nd and 3rd, @天津消防 reported a series of accidents: a man jumped from the Lion Grove Bridge in Tianjin and was knocked unconscious by the water after entering the water, suspected of being in the wrong posture. The firefighters and the Blue Sky Rescue Team jumped into the water to rescue him. Another young man followed the Tianjin old man and jumped into the water, but was knocked unconscious on the spot and was finally rescued by the old men.

Regarding the risks of diving, the reporter interviewed Wang Weidong, director of the Department of Orthopedics at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University (Zhejiang Xinhua Hospital), who was also the attending physician of Peng Qinglin, the delivery man who dived to save lives.

"According to the news, the height of the Lion Grove Bridge in Tianjin is between 4 and 6 meters. At this height, if the posture when entering the water is incorrect, the impact of entering the water from a height may shatter internal organs and cause fractures." Wang Weidong said that when entering the water instantly, the water has no time to drain away, and the force is similar to falling on concrete.

According to relevant data, if you jump from a five-meter high platform, you can enter the water at a speed of more than 20 kilometers per hour; if you jump from a ten-meter high platform, you can enter the water at a speed of 50 kilometers per hour; and if you jump from a height of more than 20 meters, you can enter the water at a speed of more than 100 kilometers per hour. If you enter the water at such a high speed, if you can't control your body well, the strong impact will cause serious damage to the human body.

Wang Weidong stressed that diving is a dangerous sport, and incorrect postures can cause damage to multiple parts of the human body. For example, the eyes will be greatly impacted when entering the water; and if the abdomen hits the water first, it may damage the internal organs, or even cause fatal consequences such as a ruptured spleen. In more serious cases, if the diver's head hits the water first, it may cause a serious concussion, a fractured skull, or even death on the spot.

Wang Weidong suggested that friends who have not received scientific training in diving should not follow the trend and imitate diving.

Bone health throughout life

Do these two things to prevent fractures

"From infancy to adulthood to old age, bone growth and structure are constantly changing. We must pay attention to bone health issues at every stage of life." Talking about fractures, Wang Weidong said that especially after the age of 55, this is a watershed when the probability of fractures increases. It is best not to do high-risk things like diving.

According to the physiological data of bone hardness, 30 years old is the age when human bones are the hardest. After 30 years old, the bone regeneration speed will decrease, leading to bone aging, and the bone situation is not optimistic. Before 30 years old, the characteristics of childhood bones are good flexibility, while in adolescence they are strong and have strong pressure-bearing capacity.

"On the one hand, middle-aged and elderly people should pay attention to fractures caused by accidents, and on the other hand, they also need to prevent fractures through some lifestyle changes." Wang Weidong said that doing the following can significantly reduce the probability of fractures

First, insist on doing some functional sports activities, such as slow walking every day, which can prevent osteoporosis and reduce the chance of fractures.

The second is to eat more calcium-rich foods, such as milk, fish, soy products, eggs, etc., and supplement with calcium supplements if necessary.

Elderly patients with fractures

Have surgery as soon as possible

Wang Weidong has a lot to say about elderly patients with fractures. Their department performs eighty to ninety artificial joint replacement surgeries on patients over 75 years old every year. The oldest patient they have ever had was 101 years old.

In the industry, hip fractures in the elderly are called "the last fracture in life". This is mainly because most elderly fracture patients have multiple medical diseases (heart, lung, brain, and kidney), and they are afraid to undergo surgery early. Bedridden patients are prone to lung infection, aspiration pneumonia, urinary tract infection, deep vein thrombosis of the lower limbs, cerebral embolism and other diseases, resulting in adverse consequences.

He suggested that patients who are physically able to tolerate surgery or who are suitable for surgery after medical adjustments should get out of bed and move around early (preferably within 48 hours) after surgery. If the patient's condition really does not allow surgery, it is also recommended that the patient sit up in bed or even stand without weight bearing early, do not pay attention to the location of the fracture, and do not recommend long-term bed rest and traction. Even if surgery is not possible in the end, do not allow complications due to long-term bed rest, which will eventually lead to serious consequences.
