Is the sudden sharp pain in the chest a sign of impending sudden death?

Some patients with myocardial infarction do not feel pain, and they will experience shock or acute heart failure as soon as the attack occurs. A small number of patients feel pain in the upper abdomen, which is easily misdiagnosed as acute abdomen such as gastric perforation and acute pancreatitis. Other patients experience pain in the neck, mandible, pharynx and teeth, which is also easily misdiagnosed.

A study published in 2020 in my country's Journal of Emergency Medicine analyzed the autopsy characteristics of 5,516 sudden deaths. The primary cause of sudden death was sudden cardiac death, accounting for 57.8%, of which sudden death from coronary heart disease accounted for the highest proportion (55.2%); 21.6% was sudden pulmonary death, and 9.21% was sudden cerebral death. Generally speaking, patients with coronary heart disease, severe arrhythmia, cardiomyopathy, hypertension, stroke, and heart failure are prone to sudden death.
