Chinese Rehabilitation Medicine Association 2023 National Science and Technology Week Volunteer Service Series Report 2

In order to strengthen the country's science popularization capabilities, implement the National Science Literacy Campaign in depth, vigorously promote the spirit of scientists, and establish a social trend of loving and respecting science, the Chinese Rehabilitation Medicine Association actively responded to the call of the China Association for Science and Technology and organized a series of rehabilitation science popularization activities during the "National Science and Technology Week" and "National Science and Technology Workers' Day" from May to June.

Science and technology volunteer service is an important part of the series of activities of the National Science and Technology Workers' Day in 2023 of the Chinese Rehabilitation Medicine Association. It aims to mobilize the majority of rehabilitation science and technology workers to participate in science and technology volunteer services and serve the grassroots, promote the volunteer spirit of dedication, friendship, mutual assistance and progress, carry out diversified science and technology volunteer service activities in various places, disseminate rehabilitation science knowledge, promote the formation of a trend of respecting science, and promote the improvement of the scientific literacy of the whole people.

01 Zhejiang Hangzhou Station

Spine Correction Action-Scoliosis Science Popularization in Campus

On May 19, the Health and Family Planning Bureau and the Education Bureau of Binjiang District, Hangzhou City, jointly with Zhejiang Rehabilitation Medical Center, held a training course on spinal curvature abnormality screening skills for the district. The training invited Tang Jing, a member of the Trauma Rehabilitation Professional Committee of the Chinese Rehabilitation Medical Association and deputy chief physician of the Orthopedic Rehabilitation Department of Zhejiang Rehabilitation Medical Center, to give a lecture and introduced in detail the technical specifications for spinal curvature abnormality screening. 32 medical staff from the community health service centers in the district, and 52 school doctors and teaching staff from primary and secondary schools participated in the training.

In the practical training class of spinal curvature abnormality screening, the instructor demonstrated the dorsal examination, lateral examination and flexion test, and introduced the use of the scoliosis measuring ruler, so that the participants had a more intuitive understanding of scoliosis. Later, through a series of publicity, we will popularize spinal health knowledge, improve the understanding and prevention of spinal health, enhance students' awareness of protecting the spine, and create a good atmosphere for the whole society to care about and pay attention to the spinal health of children and adolescents.

On the day of the event, Associate Chief Physician Tang Jing also gave a special science lecture on spinal health to the students of Hangzhou Binjiang Experimental Primary School. He introduced the normal posture of the spine and scoliosis, as well as how to screen for it at home. He suggested that students develop correct daily postures, such as sitting, standing, writing and gait; the bed should not be too soft and the pillow should not be too high when lying in bed; try to use a backpack; avoid lying down to do homework or crossing your legs, etc.

02 Qinghai Haidong Station

Pay attention to the home rehabilitation of disabled children - Disability prevention science popularization and free clinic activities

On the occasion of the National Science and Technology Week and the 33rd National Day for Persons with Disabilities, in order to popularize knowledge related to home rehabilitation and disability prevention for children with disabilities, enhance awareness of disability prevention, and increase the understanding, care and tolerance of disability among all sectors of society, on May 19, Jin Hongfang, member of the Science Popularization Working Committee of the Chinese Rehabilitation Medicine Association and director of the Rehabilitation Department, organized volunteers from the Rehabilitation Department to come to Hualong County, Haidong City, Qinghai Province to carry out home rehabilitation for children with disabilities, disability prevention science popularization and free medical consultation activities, and screened out more than 20 disabled children.

This activity is aimed at children aged 0-17 with physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and language cognitive disorders. During the activity, parents brought their children to consult the staff about their children's conditions, functional conditions, and how to prevent and rehabilitate them. At the same time, volunteers from Qinghai Provincial Women and Children's Hospital conducted on-site assessments and diagnoses, and promptly explained to parents the current status of their children and the treatment they need, provided home rehabilitation guidance and plans, and explained to parents the relevant knowledge of rehabilitation treatment and relief channels.

Members of the Society's Science Popularization Committee actively go to the grassroots level to carry out rehabilitation services for the disabled, responding to the concept of "improving the social security system and care service system for the disabled, and promoting the comprehensive development of the cause of the disabled", effectively safeguarding the vital rights and interests of the disabled, and helping to form a good social trend of helping the disabled, bringing warmth and services to the disabled.

03 Guizhou Zunyi Station

"Carry forward the scientific spirit and forge ahead with the journey of popularizing rehabilitation science" science popularization free clinic activity

On May 19, the Rehabilitation Department of Zunyi Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Guizhou Province and the Zunyi Federation of Trade Unions jointly held a science popularization free clinic in Xinpu New District of Zunyi City. Focusing on the current prominent health issue of COVID-19 in society, they focused on popularizing science on "Traditional Chinese Medicine Rehabilitation Intervention after New Coronavirus Infection", achieving the purpose of spreading advanced scientific knowledge of Chinese and Western medicine rehabilitation, popularizing health concepts, and promoting the culture of traditional Chinese medicine.

The activity was conducted in the form of on-site popular science lectures, free clinic consultation, popular science interaction, the performance of the Health Qigong "Five Animal Exercises", and the experience of TCM rehabilitation therapy projects. Dr. Chen Yang, member of the Science Popularization Working Committee of the Chinese Rehabilitation Medicine Association and director of the Rehabilitation Department of Zunyi Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, led the backbone members of the department to complete this free clinic activity. The activity was held in the morning and afternoon respectively in the Xinpu Campus of Zunyi Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital and the Multi-Function Hall of Zunyi Federation of Trade Unions.

In this activity, more than 80 people received free consultations. In addition to patients infected with the new coronavirus, more than 50 people received free treatments, including those suffering from insomnia, gastric ulcers, migraines, frozen shoulder, cervical spondylosis, lumbar disc herniation, and cerebral infarction recovery. The activity was a complete success, and the patients who came to the free consultation expressed their gratitude to the department. The activity received a good response.

04 Yunnan Kaiyuan Station

Caring for disabled children and building a harmonious society

From May 20 to 21, Li Bin, member of the Science Popularization Working Committee of the Chinese Rehabilitation Medicine Association and director of the Pediatric Rehabilitation Department of the Children's Hospital of Kaiyuan People's Hospital, organized a series of free rehabilitation clinics and assessment activities for disabled children, bringing love to every child in need.

During the event, Director Li Bin explained to parents the importance of child rehabilitation, and therapists provided rehabilitation assessment, treatment and family guidance for children. A total of 45 children with child rehabilitation were treated during the two-day event.

This activity actively responded to the national slogan of "participating in civilized practices to help the disabled and jointly create a harmonious and civilized society", and made some contributions to improving the social security system and care service system for the disabled and promoting the all-round development of the cause of the disabled. 05 Sichuan Chengdu Station

Decoding neuropsychological development to help children grow up healthily - early screening training for neuropsychological development

On May 16, Kong Mian, standing member of the Science Popularization Working Committee of the Chinese Rehabilitation Medicine Association and director of the Children's Rehabilitation Center of Chengdu First People's Hospital, organized Yu Zhihua, deputy chief physician of the undergraduate department, and staff volunteers of Huayang Community Health Service Center to carry out a popular science education activity entitled "Warning Signs of Children's Psychological and Behavioral Developmental Problems."

The proportion of children with psychological and behavioral deviations in development is increasing year by year, seriously affecting children's health and social functions. Early detection and early intervention are the most effective ways to improve the prognosis of such children. Due to the lack of relevant knowledge reserves of primary care doctors, the Children's Rehabilitation Center of Chengdu First People's Hospital and the Huayang Community Service Center of Tianfu New District conducted training on early warning signs of infant neuropsychology for 32 in-hospital health care doctors (staff) from more than 20 kindergartens in the jurisdiction.

The training involved early screening for diseases such as language delay, autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, cognitive impairment, motor coordination disorder, sensory integration disorder, etc. At the same time, it also educated health care doctors on children's family behavior intervention and parent communication skills.

Teachers at Huayang Community Health Service Center also invited some kindergarten health doctors to share their experiences and daily work experiences with everyone.

Through this education and publicity activity, kindergarten health doctors have a deeper understanding of neurodevelopmental diseases and can pay better attention to the mental and behavioral health of kindergarten children, detect deviations and refer them in a timely manner. This training will benefit more than 6,000 children in the jurisdiction.

Science and Technology Volunteer Service
