A guide for diabetics to spend the summer safely: Check out these 7 tips

Summer is the season when diabetics are most likely to develop complications, such as high blood pressure, high blood sugar, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, etc. Therefore, diabetics need to pay more attention to their diet, exercise and lifestyle habits to stay healthy. The following 7 "strategies" can help diabetics spend the summer safely.

1. Maintain a regular diet: When appetite decreases in summer, the dosage of the medicine should be reduced appropriately, but you should follow the doctor's advice. If you have no appetite for a long time, you need to consult a doctor on how to adjust the dosage.

2. Drink water scientifically: Dehydration is easy to occur in summer, leading to hyperosmotic coma, cerebral infarction, acute renal failure and other diseases. Therefore, diabetic patients should drink at least 1500 mL of water every day, choose cold boiled water, and avoid drinking sugary and carbonated water drinks.

3. Eat a moderate amount of fruit: You can choose low-glycemic and high-water fruits, and control the amount to ensure calorie balance. For example, if you eat 500 g of watermelon in the afternoon, you should reduce 20 g of rice in the evening.

4. Moderate exercise: You can exercise about an hour after a meal to lower blood sugar after a meal. However, avoid exercising in high temperatures and choose walking, swimming, doing exercises, Tai Chi and other forms of exercise, especially walking, which is very beneficial for diabetes recovery.

5. Pay attention to foot health: Try not to wear sandals or open-toed slippers in summer, and do not walk barefoot on the beach to avoid foot injuries, mold, and bacterial infections, which may cause or aggravate foot ulcers and infections.

6. Blood sugar monitoring: In summer, the blood sugar of diabetic patients is not very stable, so it is necessary to strengthen monitoring, record data, evaluate the condition, and guide medication. Monitor blood sugar at least 4 times a day.

7. Drug storage: Diabetic patients need to pay attention to the storage method of insulin. Insulin should be placed in a dry and cool place, and avoid being placed in places with too high or too low temperatures, such as in the refrigerator, under direct sunlight, or in the storage box next to the dashboard of a car. Check the insulin bottle regularly to ensure that glargine insulin, detemir insulin, etc. are clear and free of foreign matter to avoid affecting the efficacy.
