Busy removing glasses during the Spring Festival, how much do you know about preoperative examinations?

Wearing glasses to eat New Year's Eve dinner in winter requires repeatedly wiping the fog off the lenses. After wearing contact lenses for a long time, the eyes start to become dry, itchy and inflamed. The vision of the major I like is limited, and the heavy frames make my appearance plummet. There are so many troubles with wearing glasses for myopia. Why not take off the glasses during the Spring Festival?

The refractive department of Wuhan University Aier Eye Hospital resumed normal outpatient services on January 23 (the second day of the Chinese New Year) and started surgeries on January 24 (the third day of the Chinese New Year) to help everyone say goodbye to the trouble of wearing glasses in the Year of the Rabbit. So, what preparations should be made before myopia surgery? Today, the editor will answer them one by one.

1. Who is suitable for myopia surgery?

Myopia surgery has certain age requirements. The patients must have myopia within 1800 degrees, astigmatism within 600 degrees, and their myopia and astigmatism must be stable in the past two years (the annual change is within 50 degrees).

2. Preoperative Preparation

If you usually wear contact lenses, such as invisible lenses or cosmetic lenses, please stop wearing them before the preoperative examination:

l Before the preoperative examination, you should stop wearing soft contact lenses for 1 week and cosmetic contact lenses for 1-2 weeks;

l Rigid gas permeable contact lenses should be discontinued for 3-4 weeks;

l Orthokeratology lenses should not be worn for more than 3 months.

3. Preoperative Examination

Dr. Feng Mei, member of the Refractive Group of Aier Eye Hospital Group in Hubei Province and refractive specialist of Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University, explained: Preoperative examination is essential for myopia surgery. Preoperative examination is equivalent to a comprehensive physical examination of the eyes. Through preoperative examination, it can be evaluated whether you meet the conditions for myopia surgery and determine the surgical method of myopia correction.

IV. Others

Do not drive alone on the day of the examination, because one of the examination items is a mydriasis examination, and after mydriasis, the patient will have normal reactions such as photophobia and blurred vision of near objects for a short period of time.

Half a day is reserved on the day of laser surgery. Preoperative examination and surgery are not performed on the same day. On the day of surgery, the actual surgery time is only about ten minutes, but there are also preoperative preparations and preoperative education. Generally speaking, half a day is basically enough. No hospitalization is required for surgery. You can go home after completing the postoperative medication and come to the hospital for a follow-up examination the next day.

Zhang Qingsong, deputy chief physician, 2020 People's Good Doctor of the Year, head of the Hubei Province Refractive Group of Aier Eye Hospital Group, and director of the Refractive Department of Aier Eye Hospital Affiliated to Wuhan University, reminded that myopia surgery has clear contraindications and is not suitable for everyone. The eye condition of each patient is different. Myopic friends can go to the Refractive Department of Aier Eye Hospital Affiliated to Wuhan University for an eye examination during the Spring Festival.
