According to IDC’s quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, the Philippine smartphone market is expected to grow 6.1% year-on-year in 2024 to reach nearly 18 million units. The acceleration of the smartphone market is supported by overall stable economic growth through 2024, as well as vendors’ strategic approach to keep smartphones affordable for Filipinos by launching more entry-level models, despite challenges such as peso depreciation and adverse weather events. In 2024, more than half of total shipments will be priced below US$100, with Transsion (with sub-brands Infinix, Tecno and Itel) shipping close to 4.8 million units in the same price range, driven primarily by Infinix’s Smart series and Tecno’s Spark Go series, reducing the overall ASP from US$192 in 2023 to US$179 in 2024. Angela Medez, senior market analyst for client devices at IDC Philippines, said: “Although sales fell 11.8% year-on-year in the last quarter as vendors launched smartphones ahead of schedule, shipments in the fourth quarter of 2024 will still be close to 5 million units, driven by the holiday season, making it the strongest quarter for the smartphone market.” |
