According to a survey of more than 1,500 culinary professionals, the top “macro trend” is incorporating social media trends into restaurant menus and marketing. Leveraging platforms like TikTok is top of mind for operators, and it’s a two-way street when it comes to influence. Audiences help restaurants’ dishes go viral, and restaurants copy food trends found online and incorporate them into innovative menus or LTOs.

Feeling at home

Comfort food obviously has an appeal, and nothing brings comfort like a nice bowl of soup or a delicious stew.

Rooted in taste

Chefs are making a splash on social media, using the Indian stew to elevate tacos, sandwiches, nachos, chorizo, pasta and more. Birria is popping up on many creative app menus.

Customers across the country can expect to see Carolina, Kansas City and Texas barbecue sauces on their tables. They can choose from Chicago, New York or Detroit-style pizzas, as well as regional dishes from the Midwest, the North and Lowcountry cooking.

Better, healthier, tastier.

What non-alcoholic beverages have in common is the demand for products that boost energy, but those that promise health benefits in addition to energy are rapidly gaining market share.

As consumers indulge in spirits, they’re looking for more: more flavor and more unusual tastes, more energy, and more choice.

TikTok’s influence on food trends and restaurant menus cannot be overstated. Through social media and the speed of virality, consumers are discovering virtually unknown flavors, ingredients, meal preparation methods, and cooking techniques.
