Similarweb: Twitter competitor Threads lost 80% of its daily active users after one month

The new social app Threads, which was hailed as the "Twitter killer," lost 80% of its daily active users just one month after its launch. Now, two independent data analysis companies say the number of users logging into Threads every day has stagnated just one month after its launch.

Data released by digital intelligence platform Similarweb shows that the number of daily active users (DAU) of Threads reached about 49 million just two days after its launch on July 5. However, by August 1, this number had fallen to just over 9.6 million. User engagement has also dropped significantly since the birth of Threads. Data from Similarweb shows that the usage time of Threads reached a peak of 14 minutes per day on July 6, but by August 1, the time had dropped to only 2.3 minutes.

According to data from market research firm Sensor Tower, the number of daily active users of Threads fell 82% from its first launch on July 5 to July 31. According to Sensor Tower, Threads had about 44 million monthly active users at its peak, when more people were looking for a real alternative to Twitter. By the end of July, DAU fell to about 8 million. The company told CNN that DAU fell by about 1% every day. Sensor Tower data also mentioned that engagement has dropped to only 2.9 minutes per day compared to 19 minutes in early July.
