Pixalate: Apple App Store Report for the Second Quarter of 2024

More than 1.5 million apps were removed from the Apple App Store between Q1 2012 and Q2 2024, with 1.92 million apps still available for download at the end of Q2 2024. 57,000 apps were removed from the Apple App Store in Q2 2024. This represents a significant drop, with only 3% of apps removed this year compared to an average removal rate of 8.2% in previous quarters. In Q2 2024, 99% of the removed apps had low user stickiness and less than 1,000 user reviews, which is consistent with previous quarters. In addition, 46% of the removed apps were "abandoned" (not updated in more than two years), similar to Q2 2023. Currently, 32% of the available apps in the Apple Store have not been updated in two years. In addition, 15% of the apps removed in Q2 2024 have not been updated in the past four years. In addition, more than 4,300 apps removed from the Apple Store in the second quarter of 2024 contained advertisements. By region, North America had the lowest delisting rate (1.6%), while Latin America (1.9%), EMEA (1.9%), and APAC (2.1%) had the lowest delisting rates. The Photo & Video category had the lowest delisting rate (2%), while Entertainment apps had the highest delisting rate (4%). In the second quarter of 2024, 2.4% of apps registered in Russia were removed from the app store. 1.9% of apps registered in the UK were removed from the app store, totaling 393 apps.
