Counterpoint: Global foldable smartphone shipments to grow 48% year-on-year in Q2 2024

According to the latest data from the Foldable Phone Shipment Tracking Report by market research firm Counterpoint Research, global foldable smartphone shipments increased by 48% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2024. China continues to lead the growth of the foldable market, accounting for more than half of the total shipments, and foldable phone shipments in Western Europe, other parts of Asia (excluding China, India and South Korea) and Latin America have also seen significant growth.

Today, Western Europe has become the world's second largest foldable screen mobile phone market, with the largest number of mobile phone brands outside of China. Brands such as Honor, Samsung, OPPO, Motorola, OnePlus and Google are all competing fiercely here.

It is worth mentioning that in this quarter, Honor surpassed Samsung for the first time and became the number one in Western Europe , which also brought about a major change in the competitive landscape in the region.

In addition to expanding into the European market, Honor is also actively expanding into other Asian markets. Its foldable phone shipments surged 455% this quarter, and Honor Magic V2 is the best-selling book-shaped foldable phone in all regions except China.

In addition, Motorola has the highest foldable phone market share in North America and Latin America.

Driven by the strong performance of the Razr 40 series, foldable phone shipments in Latin America increased 458% year-on-year.

Previously, the foldable screen mobile phone market outside of China was almost dominated by Samsung, but Honor and Motorola both achieved significant success in the first half of 2024, and Xiaomi and vivo also began to launch foldable screen mobile phones in markets outside of China this year, which posed a considerable threat to Samsung's market share.
