Canalys: Smartphone shipments in the Middle East reached 11.5 million units in Q2 2024, a year-on-year increase of 20%

The latest data from the analysis agency Canalys shows that in the second quarter of 2024, smartphone shipments in the Middle East (excluding Türkiye) reached 11.5 million units, a year-on-year increase of 20%.

Although Samsung's shipments fell 5% year-on-year in the second quarter, it still maintained its leading position in the region with a 28% market share, driven by the mid-range Galaxy A series and high-end Galaxy S24.

Xiaomi focuses on the mobile phone market below US$200. With highly price-competitive models such as Redmi A3, 13C and 13 4G, it jumped to the second place in terms of shipments with a growth rate of 70%, with shipments reaching 2.3 million units and a market share of 20%.

Transsion ranked third with aggressive pricing and mass-market appeal, achieving a year-on-year growth of 3%, with shipments reaching 1.8 million units and a market share of 16%.

Apple's shipments fell 6% year-on-year to 1.1 million units, accounting for 10% of the market share and ranking fourth on the list.

Honor achieved a significant growth of 67% by increasing its retail business in Saudi Arabia and Iraq, with shipments of 700,000 units and a market share of 6%, ranking fifth on the list.

Canalys senior analyst Manish Pravinkumar said: Emerging brands are steadily closing the market share gap with leading companies in the region, reshaping the competitive landscape.

In the short term, emerging brands must take advantage of the favorable economic environment to consolidate their local foundation. This includes expanding retail operations, optimizing product portfolios, and prioritizing profitability while maintaining channel confidence.

Established brands should focus on innovating with GenAI, expanding their ecosystems, and incorporating sustainable practices to enhance customer stickiness.
