Omdia: AMOLED screen shipments increased to 182 million units in Q1 2024

According to the latest report released by research firm Omdia, global smartphone OLED panel shipments exceeded LCD screens for the first time in history in the first quarter of 2024. The report shows that annual shipments of smartphone displays will reach 1.45 billion units in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 5%, and by the first half of 2024, shipments are expected to reach 715 million units, a year-on-year increase of 9%.

Among them, AMOLED screen shipments increased to 182 million pieces in the first quarter of 2024, a year-on-year increase of 39%. In contrast, TFT LCD shipments fell to 172 million pieces, a year-on-year decrease of 10%.

Omdia analysts pointed out that Chinese display panel makers are supplying high-quality AMOLED displays to domestic smartphone brands at more competitive prices, which is rapidly replacing TFT LCD in the mid-to-high-end market.

AMOLED's market share is expected to further increase to 53% in the second quarter and expand to 56% in the third quarter.

In addition, the agency also predicts that the launch of the iPhone 16 series will significantly boost the shipment volume of AMOLED mobile phone screens, which will drive AMOLED to surpass TFT LCD in 2024.

Starting this year, OLED is expected to dominate the smartphone display market, which also means that LCD is doomed to fail in the smartphone field.
