Counterpoint: iPhone 15 sales in China declined significantly, with initial sales down 4.5% from the previous generation

According to recent news, data from market research firm Counterpoint Research showed that sales of the iPhone 15 series in China within the first 17 days of its launch fell 4.5% compared with the iPhone 14 series released in 2022.

Counterpoint estimates that Huawei's sales of the Mate 60 Pro alone will reach 5 to 6 million units this year.

Jefferies Securities analysts led by Edison Lee wrote that thanks to the unexpected debut of Huawei's new models, its sales in the market have now surpassed Apple and become the number one. iPhone 15 sales have fallen more significantly than its predecessors, and the decline may reach double digits.

Market research firm CINNO Research previously predicted that Apple’s mobile phone sales in China’s smartphone market may reach 45.5 million units in 2023, a slight decline of 2% year-on-year. Among them, Apple’s latest generation of iPhone 15 series models are expected to sell about 10 million units in 2023, compared with the previous generation iPhone 14 series, the sales performance of the same period fell by 22%, a decrease of about 2.9 million units.

TrendForce estimates that the output share of the iPhone 15 Pro series is expected to rise to more than 60%. The total number of iPhone production for the whole year is estimated to be between 220 million and 225 million units, a year-on-year decrease of about 5%.

Prior to this, Kuo Ming-chi had said that the iPhone 15 Plus may see an increase in orders because the previous expectations were low and the actual sales situation was not that bad. However, the sales of iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro were lower than expected. If Apple does not reduce the price, the orders for these two models may be cut.
