WhatsApp announced on Wednesday that active users send more than 7 billion voice messages every day. Voice messages have gained popularity among many WhatsApp users and are protected by end-to-end encryption like text messages. WhatsApp said this allows users to have "more expressive conversations." “Expressing emotion or excitement through voice is more natural than text,” says the app’s operator. Its service is used by more than 2 billion users, who send more than 100 billion messages a day (last count was more than two years ago). Yet the growing adoption of voice messaging – a remarkable and seemingly unmatched feat – is not necessarily a surprise. In many emerging markets, for example, we’ve seen a segment of new smartphone users show a preference for voice over typing. To mark this milestone, WhatsApp is adding a host of new features and improvements to its voice notes feature. These include the ability to pause the recording of a voice note and resume it later, as well as the option to listen to recordings at up to 2x speed. From cnBeta.COM |
