Strategy Analytics: Global True Wireless Stereo (TWS) Bluetooth Headset Sales Exceed 300 Million in 2020, with an Increase of Nearly 90%

According to foreign media reports, a new report from Strategy Analytics shows that in 2020, AirPods occupied a disproportionately large share of the global wireless headset market. Last year, sales of true wireless stereo (TWS) Bluetooth headsets exceeded 300 million, an increase of nearly 90%. Among them, Apple's ‌AirPods‌ accounted for nearly half of the entire market, and the rest was made up of a large number of companies that held small shares individually.

Despite Apple's dominance, Strategy Analytics noted that Apple's lead is shrinking as competition intensifies. "Apple still maintains its absolute leading position in the TWS field in 2020, but its dominant share is shrinking as competition intensifies. Fierce competition from Xiaomi, Samsung and Huawei is expected in 2021," said Ken Hyers, director of Strategy Analytcis. "The TWS headset market is already extremely crowded, and despite strong sales prospects, consolidation will inevitably occur in the next few years."

Due to the low penetration rate and the still very small installed base of technology, it is expected that there is still great potential for development in the broader Bluetooth headset market. In this regard, Ville-Petteri Ukonaho, associate director of Strategy Analytics, pointed out: "Less than 1/10 of the world's people own Bluetooth headsets, so there is still a lot of room for growth." In addition, as manufacturers no longer bundle wired headsets with new smartphones, Strategy Analytics expects that the market has considerable growth potential.
