Quintly released the "2019 Instagram Survey Report".

Instagram profiles increased by 16%

Instagram users with 100,000 to 1 million followers grew 16%, and the number of users with 10,000 to 100,000 followers grew 15.9%, and these users have been the most successful in growing their follower count.

68.2% of Instagram posts are images

Images remain the most popular post format on Instagram, accounting for 68% of all posts, followed by videos (18%) and carousel posts (14%).

Video posts receive 49% more engagement

The engagement rate of Instagram posts is defined as the sum of likes + comments. By format, video posts have much higher engagement rates than carousels and images.

67% of posts are longer than 150 characters

35.8% of Instagram posts use more than 300 characters, and 30.8% of captions contain 150-300 characters. Only 0.6% of users use no description at all, and 6.6% use 1-50 characters. In short, there is a clear trend towards posting more descriptive posts.

More than 50% of posts do not contain emojis

Quintly analyzed the use of emojis and found that 52.3% of posts did not include emojis.

Posts containing 1-3 emojis accounted for 38.2%. Only 8.7% of all Instagram posts contained 4-10 emojis, and only 0.9% of posts used more than 10 emojis.

That means more than 90% of posts either had no emojis at all or only 1-3 emojis.

Fewer tabs, more interactions

Interestingly, users with larger profiles most often used 1-3 hashtags in their posts, but tended to get more interactions when they didn’t use those hashtags at all.

Weekends generate higher engagement

Although users post more on weekdays, interactions on Saturdays and Sundays are 27.3% higher than on weekdays.
