CMR: India's smartphone shipments are expected to reach 116 million in 2016

CMR recently released data for the third quarter, showing that by the end of September, India's mobile phone shipments reached 197.5 million units, of which 78.4 million were shipped in the third quarter. CMR expects that India's smartphone shipments will reach 265 million units in 2016, of which 116 million will be smartphones.

66% of mobile phones sold in the third quarter were made in India;

Second-generation 4G smartphones sold in the third quarter all used Qualcomm chips;

Of the 137 mobile phone brands that sold phones in India in the third quarter, 69 were smartphone manufacturers;

83% of 4G smartphones sold in the third quarter support Volta;

Android phones are more popular among Indian consumers. 98% of smartphones sold in the third quarter were powered by Android, of which 25% were pre-installed with Android 6.

Smartphones with 6 GB of RAM accounted for only 0.5% of all smartphones sold in the third quarter. Most smartphones with 1 GB of RAM (32%), and smartphones with 3 GB of RAM are also growing rapidly.

64% of smartphones sold in the third quarter were quad-core, and 29% were equipped with 1.3 GHz processors;

And 66% of smartphones sold in the third quarter were phablets.
