Globalwebindex: Global mobile internet usage reaches 65%

As we all know, the number of Internet users around the world is increasing day by day. However, just as important is the range of devices people use to access the Internet.
Of course, some of the conventional devices remain: PCs and laptops, for example, remain the dominant access points. But other devices are rapidly growing in importance, especially mobile phones. As you can see in the chart below from our new Devices Report, nearly two-thirds of global Internet users connected via a smartphone in the fourth quarter of 2013 (up from 55% at the end of 2011).
Even more explosive growth has been in internet use on tablets, which has risen from 12% to 29% over the same period. Granted, it’s starting from a smaller base, which makes it easier to record strong growth. But nonetheless, its growth rate is impressive.
With smart TVs and e-readers also seeing growth, and with interest in new products such as Google Glass, it’s clear that the diversification of access to the internet shows no signs of abating.
