Millennial Media: Android ranked first in global mobile device advertising market share in August 2011

The latest report released by mobile advertising network Millennial Media pointed out that in August 2011, Android was still the largest operating system on its advertising platform, accounting for 54% of ad impressions, while iOS ranked second with 28% and RIM ranked third with 13%.

In terms of growth, Android ad impressions (including mobile phones and tablets) increased by 48% year-on-year, iOS impressions remained relatively flat, and Windows Phone 7 ad impressions increased by 48% year-on-year.

Smartphones accounted for 72% of the platform's ad impressions, up 6% from the previous month, and other connected devices and feature phones accounted for 14%. In terms of connected networks, mobile devices from Wi-Fi accounted for 32% of ad impressions, of which 59% were smartphones, and Wi-Fi mobile device ad impressions fell 11% from the previous month.

Android still tops the market share chart in August, nearly double that of iOS

Other Wi-Fi connected devices (note: including tablets, gaming devices, e-readers) accounted for 34% of ad impressions on the platform. Feature phones accounted for 33% of ad impressions on the Millennial network in August last year, but this August has dropped to 14%.

Millennial Media, which based its rankings on traffic to its mobile advertising site, found that Android had a 54% market share in August, with Apple's iOS in second place at 28%, almost double Android's share. RIM's BlackBerry ranked third at 13%.

According to the report by Millennial Media, Apple still has the highest smartphone market share of 23.19%. HTC ranks second with 16.33%, Samsung ranks third with 14.55%, and Huawei ranks seventh with 2.67%.

By mobile phone classification, the top three mobile phones in the Millennial Media report are Apple iPhone, LG Optimus and Motorola Droid.
