On February 26, 2012, research firm eMarketer released a report stating that global social network advertising revenue is still growing strongly, and may increase by nearly 50% this year, with the U.S. market revenue accounting for 47% of the total revenue.

eMarketer predicts that social network advertisers will spend $7.72 billion this year, including ads on social networking sites, social games and in-app ads. eMarketer said that this year's advertising spending growth is even higher than in 2011, and the growth rate may decline in 2013 and 2014, but it will still remain in double digits, and the total global social network advertising revenue will be close to $12 billion by 2014.

Revenue from the US market currently accounts for nearly half of the total global social network advertising revenue, and will continue to maintain this proportion during the forecast period. This year, advertisers will spend $3.63 billion on US social networks, up from $2.54 billion in 2011 and rising to $5.59 billion in 2014. Although the US growth rate will be slightly lower than the global average during 2011-2013, the increase in advertising spending in the US is likely to exceed the sum of the rest of the world, keeping the country's share of global social advertising spending at about half.

Facebook will receive the most social network advertising revenue, accounting for 70% of total U.S. social network advertising revenue during the forecast period, while microblogging site Twitter's market share will increase from 5% in 2011 to 8% in 2014. Meanwhile, the advertising revenue share of other social network sites will also increase, increasing by 2 percentage points between 2011 and 2014.
