AppData: Facebook Android app has more daily active users than iPhone

The latest data released by market research firm AppData on December 19, 2011 showed that the number of daily active users of the Android version of Facebook app has exceeded that of the iPhone version of Facebook app for the first time.

AppData data shows that the average number of daily active users of the Android version of the Facebook app is 58.3 million, while the average number of daily active users of the iPhone version of the Facebook app is 57.4 million. At the same time, the number of monthly active users of the Android version of the Facebook app still lags behind the iPhone version of the Facebook app: the former has 85.4 million, while the latter has 99.1 million.

However, monthly active users don't reflect "user stickiness" as well as daily active users, or the number of people who use the Facebook app every day. By that measure, the Android version of the Facebook app still leads the iPhone version of the Facebook app at 68.2% stickiness, compared to 57.9%.

The Android version of Facebook was released in September 2009, a full year later than the iPhone version. One reason why the number of daily active users of the Android version of Facebook has surpassed the iPhone version of Facebook may be that the number of Android devices activated daily has increased from 400,000 in May this year to 500,000 in June. Google announced last month that the number of Android devices activated worldwide has exceeded 200 million to date.
