BusinessInsider: Google+ can't beat Facebook: Few users, lots of spam

Google+ has reached tens of millions of users after opening up registration to the public last week. But will those users stick with it? Google+ is a good social network, but it's not as good as Facebook, especially in the face of a new, upgraded Facebook.

Here are the top 10 reasons why Google+ can't match Facebook:

1. Google+ has too few users

You get tired of seeing the same 10-20 people in your Google+ stream all day, and the reason most people are on Google+ is because they're logged into Gmail.

Almost all of my friends use Facebook and Facebook Chat, which makes the experience more profound and interesting. Besides, Google executives don't often use Google+.

2. Facebook's new feature beats Google+'s "Circles"

Google+'s circle feature allows users to share information within a specific group of friends, but this feature has already been learned by Facebook.

Facebook has introduced Smart Lists, a grouping feature that automatically groups similar users into pre-set lists. We prefer Smart Lists, as long as it doesn’t easily disrupt users.

3. Google+ UI is outdated

The user interface currently used by Google+ is similar to Facebook's previous interface, but this traditional interface has been abandoned by Facebook, which has launched a new revolutionary "Timeline" personal page layout.

When Google released Google+, Facebook must have been secretly grinning, knowing that the Google+ UI would likely be overhauled in a major way just a few months after launch.

4. Google+ spam is rampant

Facebook only allows users' friends to mention the user in a post or picture, but Google+ allows users to mention everyone, which will flood your notification area with spam messages.

Twitter uses the same mention feature, but unless a user is mentioned, the red number representing the notification will not appear on the Gmail or Google search interface.

5. Google+’s information flow is not concise enough

The information stream in Google+ is full of lengthy posts. If a user posts a long article and gets a lot of comments, the entire Google+ page will not be visible on the user's display. It takes longer for users to update and see the latest updates from friends and family.

6. New Ticker feature can display friends' dynamics in real time

Facebook's latest Ticker feature allows users to know their friends' status updates and the music they are listening to in real time. Combined with the News Feed information flow function, Facebook's user experience is better than the annoying information flow interface of Google+.

7. Google+ has few partners

There are already many companies like Zynga that have built their businesses on Facebook Credits virtual currency, and Facebook's newly launched Open Graph platform has further consolidated their leading edge.

Facebook Open Graph will enable developers to build more immersive applications that connect them more closely to Facebook.

Facebook has already partnered with Netflix, Spotify, Nike, Zynga and many other companies, while Google+ currently only offers Zynga's "CityVille" game.

8. Google+’s novelty is hard to maintain

What is the "killer feature" and greatest advantage of Google+? The advantage of Google+ is that "Google+ is not Facebook."

From the beginning we noticed that many people frequently posted on Google+ that they were tired of Facebook. Google+ initially felt very novel, which was the main reason why many people were excited about it.

But Google+ will face the same problem as Facebook, which we call "Facebook fatigue." Google+ feels fresher right now, and doesn't feel as tired as Facebook.

In fact, we should call this phenomenon "social network fatigue." No matter how users use social networks, the constant sharing and commenting behavior will always make people tired.

9. Facebook features are difficult to master

But for most users, Facebook is becoming increasingly difficult to master. When users communicate with friends, they don't really care about the so-called "killer features."

Facebook has launched a variety of new features to compete with Google+, such as smart lists to compete with Google+'s circles feature, and Skype video chat to compete with Google Hangouts group chat feature.

However, most users don’t even know how to use these new features of Facebook, which means that these new features cannot be called killer applications yet, and users will gradually understand them, preventing a large number of users from switching to Google+.

10. Google+ needs to differentiate itself

For two social networking sites with roughly similar functions, they will not have the same living space, especially when there is a huge gap in the number of users of the two sites.

This will also not lead to user migration, as users will get tired of using two social networks at the same time.

Google+ has new features like live streaming and Google Docs, but that's not enough to beat Facebook, let alone a completely new Facebook that has undergone a major overhaul.
