Symptoms of bacterial vaginitis

Symptoms of bacterial vaginitis

Bacterial vaginitis (BV) is a mixed infection caused by Gardnerella and some Pseudomonas aeruginosa in the vagina, which causes an imbalance in the diversity of female vaginal microorganisms, resulting in increased female secretions, fishy odor of secretions, and itchy and hot vulva. Next, let’s take a look at the symptoms of leucorrhea caused by bacterial vaginitis.

Symptoms of bacterial vaginitis discharge:

There is a significant increase in abnormal secretions in the vagina, which are thin and homogeneous or thin and viscous, and are grayish white, khaki or yellowish brown in color, with a unique fishy odor. Because alkaline semen can cause the release of acrylamine, the main manifestation is an increase in odor during or after sexual intercourse. The pH value in the vagina rises during menstruation, so the odor may also intensify during or after menstruation. The patient has discomfort in the private parts, including varying degrees of vulvar itching, which is generally not time-sensitive, but the itching is more obvious when resting and under excessive emotional stress. There are also varying degrees of external burning sensation, and some patients experience pain during sexual intercourse. Very few patients experience lower abdominal distension and pain, difficulty in sexual life, and abnormal urination. There is no obvious hematoma in the vaginal mucosal epithelium at the onset of the disease.

Diagnostic criteria:

1. Female secretions are grayish white, very thick, even sticky like dough, uniform and consistent, but not purulent secretions, and the amount is uncertain.

2. The amine content in the defecation is very high, so it has a fishy smell. During sexual intercourse or after activity, the smell is usually aggravated by the release of amines. Adding 10% ferric chloride solution to the defecation can also release the amine smell.

3. The pH value in female secretions is increased, ranging from 5.0-5.5, while that of ordinary people is 4.5-4.7.

4. Gardnerella can be detected in wet acid-fast staining of female secretions.

Of the four criteria, those who meet three or more can be diagnosed, and the fourth is an essential diagnostic criterion.
