Cancer is closely related to lifestyle habits. Through early screening and proactive prevention, cancer can be detected early and even avoided. February 4 is World Cancer Day, and this year's theme is "Integrating health resources, sharing medical care for everyone." On January 22, the national launching ceremony of World Cancer Day 2022 was held. Edited by Chongqing Cancer Prevention and Control Scientific Communication Experts Group, Chongqing Cancer Center, Chongqing Cancer Prevention and Control Office and Chongqing University Affiliated Cancer Hospital issued the "Guidelines for Screening and Prevention of Common Malignant Tumors in Chongqing Residents (2022 Edition)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Guidelines 2022 Edition"), which analyzes high-risk groups and provides screening recommendations and preventive measures for 25 common malignant tumors such as lung, colorectal, breast, liver, stomach, esophagus, cervix, and thyroid. In recent years, the incidence and mortality of malignant tumors have continued to rise, seriously threatening the lives and health of the people. The latest data from the World Health Organization shows that in 2020, the number of cancer patients diagnosed worldwide reached 19.3 million, and the number of people who died from cancer increased to 10 million. However, modern medicine believes that cancer is not a terminal illness, but a chronic disease that can be prevented, screened and treated. "Its occurrence and development is not a one-time thing, and the process often takes years to decades, which gives us the best chance to prevent cancer." Wu Yongzhong, director of Chongqing Cancer Center and secretary of the Party Committee of Chongqing University Affiliated Cancer Hospital, said that cancer prevention is to change unhealthy lifestyles, cut off the process and pathways of cancer, and do a good job in three-level cancer prevention and control. Wu Yongzhong introduced that the Chongqing Cancer Prevention and Treatment Science Communication Expert Group has updated the guidelines for three consecutive years and added common types of cancer. Judging from the number of distributions and feedback in the previous two years, the guidelines have been effective in popularizing cancer prevention knowledge among the public. The "Guidelines 2022 Edition" can be said to be the "easy-to-use version" of the "Cancer Prevention and Treatment Science Series". In 2018, the "Cancer Prevention and Treatment Science Series" was officially published by the People's Medical Publishing House. The series of 13 volumes was led by the Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Chongqing University and co-authored by more than 200 experts who have been engaged in cancer prevention and treatment research and clinical work for a long time. The text is easy to understand and the illustrations are vivid and interesting. "The guide is guided by the series of books, highly summarizes and condenses each cancer prevention and treatment point, and transforms obscure medical knowledge into authoritative and easy-to-understand popular science knowledge. It is a pocket book for the public to identify and prevent cancer." Wu Yongzhong said that the guide starts from the three aspects of high-risk groups, screening recommendations, and preventive measures that the public is most concerned about, and introduces in detail the popular science knowledge of 25 common malignant tumors. Citizens can compare the high-risk factors of various cancers based on their actual conditions, actively participate in cancer screening, be alert to related symptoms and danger signals, and achieve the prevention and control of most common malignant tumors. The World Health Organization has clearly stated that at least one-third of cancer cases can be prevented. Prevention provides the most cost-effective long-term strategy for cancer control. Currently known risk factors for cancer include: smoking, lack of exercise, dietary factors, obesity and overweight, alcohol, infection, environmental pollution, occupational exposure, etc. The World Health Organization has combined decades of research evidence on cancer and made ten major cancer prevention recommendations in terms of diet, nutrition, exercise, etc. Combined with the living habits of Chongqing residents, we recommend the following: 1. Maintain a healthy weight; 2. Exercise for at least 30 minutes every day and avoid sitting for long periods of time; 3. Eat more foods rich in whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and beans, with 2/3 of each meal being plant-based; 4. Limit salt (sodium) intake; 5. Eat a balanced diet, eat moderate amounts of red meat (such as beef, pork, and lamb), and avoid processed meat; 6. Limit the intake of sugary drinks and high-energy foods (especially processed foods that are high in sugar, low in fiber, or high in fat); 7. Do not smoke and limit drinking; 8. For cancer prevention, do not use supplements (so-called "cancer prevention foods" and "cancer prevention health products"); 9. Breastfeed as much as possible; 10. After being diagnosed with cancer, please follow your doctor's advice and receive standardized treatment. |
