Rosetta: Research shows technology affects sleep, 70% of British users bring iPad to bed

In the UK, 35% of adults sleep with a teddy bear, and more often they sleep with their partner. Some families still share a bed with their children. So do you sleep with your iPad? A recent study by Rosetta distributors showed that out of 100 tablet users, 68 users prefer to play with their baby in the bedroom.

AdAge.com reported that the living room ranked second, accounting for 63% of users, while only 45% of respondents said they use it everywhere.

"It's comfortable and convenient to play with iPad in bed," Joe Alvarado from Minneapolis told the Star Tribune. "I can search the Internet, read newspapers, browse Facebook and Twitter, etc. while lying in bed."

But if you want to have a good night's sleep, sleeping with digital devices as pillows is a big mistake. One of the most important factors that trigger sleep is darkness, which tells your brain that it is time to speed up the production of the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin. But the New York Times pointed out that people living in modern society are exposed to lights for a long time even during the day. Any kind of light can disrupt our sleep, but the blue wavelengths emitted by mobile phones, laptops, tablets and other small digital devices are the biggest enemy of disturbing people's sleep. Studies have shown that blue light is easy to trigger people's alertness, so it is actually used to keep energy and avoid sleepiness.

According to the National Sleep Foundation, 95% of Americans use a screen in the hour before bed, whether it's a TV, laptop, phone or other small device. "Continuous exposure to light from dusk until bedtime pushes our body clock back an hour, making it harder for us to fall asleep," said Dr. Charles, director of sleep medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital and professor and director of sleep medicine at Harvard Medical School, in a statement.

Experts recommend not playing with iPads before going to bed, turning off all electronic devices an hour before going to bed, and relaxing yourself in other ways: such as reading a book, taking a hot bath, or doing soothing yoga. It is also a good idea to exercise a few hours before going to bed to consume the stimulants in your body in advance.
