What's going on if I suddenly have blood in my urine?

This is the 3814th article of Da Yi Xiao Hu

Everyone may be nervous when seeing blood in urine, fearing that they have an incurable disease. In fact, many diseases can cause blood in urine, such as stones, acute bacterial cystitis, etc. Today I will talk to you about acute bacterial cystitis.

What is acute bacterial cystitis?

Acute bacterial cystitis refers to an acute nonspecific infection of the lower urinary tract, especially the bladder. It is mainly caused by ascending (retrograde) infection of bacteria around the urethra, vagina, and anus, and is more common in women than in men. The common pathogen is Escherichia coli.

What are the symptoms of acute bacterial cystitis?

Urinary tract irritation symptoms: sudden onset, obvious urinary frequency, urgency, and pain when urinating. In severe cases, urination occurs every few minutes, or even urge urinary incontinence.

2. Hematuria: It is often manifested as terminal hematuria, but there may also be complete macroscopic hematuria, which often appears a few hours or a day after urinary tract irritation symptoms (frequent urination, urgency, and pain when urinating).

3. Some patients may experience a feeling of incomplete urination and dull pain and discomfort in the lower abdomen.

How is acute bacterial cystitis treated?

First of all, when the above symptoms appear, you should go to the hospital in time for a clear diagnosis.

1. After diagnosis, follow the doctor's advice to drink plenty of water and take sodium bicarbonate orally to alkalize urine and relieve urinary tract irritation symptoms.

2. Warm water sitting bath and hot compress on the bladder area can relieve bladder spasm. If necessary, intramuscular injection of 654-2 or atropine can be given as directed by the doctor.

3. Select antibiotic treatment based on drug sensitivity test.

How to prevent bacterial cystitis?

Pay attention to personal hygiene, especially during menstruation and before and after sexual intercourse.

2. If acute cystitis recurs after discharge from hospital, the inducing factors of cystitis should be treated promptly, such as vaginitis, paraurethral gland cysts, etc. in women, and prostatitis, balanitis, etc. in men.

I hope you can develop good personal hygiene habits and stay away from diseases.
