Why is lychee called Feizixiao?

The origin of this is that Yang Guifei is known as one of the four great beauties in China, and Emperor Xuanzong of Tang, Li Longji, is also a famous romantic emperor in Chinese history. When the two met, they naturally left many popular stories. Yang Guifei liked to eat lychees. When the lychees were ripe, she asked to eat fresh lychees every day. But lychees are produced in the south, mostly in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Sichuan, Taiwan and other places. But the capital of the Tang Dynasty was in Xi'an, which was thousands of miles away from the nearest lychee producing area. In addition, fresh lychees are difficult to preserve. "Once they are off the branches, they will change color in one day, change fragrance in two days, change taste in three days, and lose color, fragrance and taste in four or five days." For Yang Guifei, Emperor Xuanzong of Tang used fast horses to transport them from Sichuan day and night, and they often arrived in the capital without changing their taste. Du Mu, a poet in the late Tang Dynasty, has a quatrain titled "Passing Huaqing Pool". There is a famous line in the middle that specifically describes this matter: "A rider in the red dust makes the concubine smile, and no one knows that it is the lychees coming." To this day, there is still a variety of lychees called Feizixiao, which is named after this.

When will Fei Zi Xiao be released?

Feizixiao is a variety of litchi, also known as Luotangpu and Yuhebao. Du Mu, a poet in the late Tang Dynasty, wrote a poem: "A rider in the red dust, Feizixiao, no one knows it is litchi coming." This is how Feizixiao got its name. This variety has large fruit, thick flesh, beautiful color, small core, sweet taste, and excellent quality and flavor. It is mainly distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi and other regions. This variety is one of the mid-early maturing high-quality varieties.

Feizixiao is characterized by its rough growth, easy growth, fertilizer tolerance, water-loving, thick branches and large leaves. This variety is sensitive to soil calcium deficiency. In the absence of calcium fertilizer for many years, the leaves gradually become smaller, the branches become shorter, and the leaf tips and edges turn yellow, resulting in the so-called "Feizixiao degeneration phenomenon". Feizixiao is also sensitive to soil water deficiency. In the dry season of autumn and winter, due to severe soil water deficiency, the sun burns the leaves, affecting the growth and quality of flower spikes.

This variety is "early-maturing, ripening after the March red leaves and before the black leaves, and the fruit is large." The fruit ripens from late May to mid-June. The fruit of this variety is sweet and edible before it turns red, and the quality declines when it is fully red and overripe.
