Feeling "stomach discomfort" does not necessarily mean stomach problems, but may be more serious

A friend told Huazi that he felt stomach discomfort and asked what kind of stomach medicine he should take. Huazi told his friend that it would be best to go to the hospital for a check-up immediately. The stomach discomfort he felt might not be a stomach disease, but could be a more serious problem.

Friends think Huazi is making a fuss, saying that it is just a stomach upset and there is no need to be so nervous. Huazi said that "stomach discomfort" actually refers to discomfort in the upper abdomen, which is a common symptom of many diseases. There are several common serious diseases that cause "stomach discomfort", each of which is life-threatening.

1. Myocardial infarction

The father of a friend of Huazi felt stomach discomfort at home. He thought it was caused by eating something bad and thought it would be fine after a rest. However, when his family found him, he was already in a coma. After being sent to the hospital, he was diagnosed with inferior wall myocardial infarction. After rescue, he was out of danger, but he developed symptoms of heart failure.

The heart is adjacent to the stomach. When a myocardial infarction occurs, the necrotic myocardial cells will rupture and release the cell contents, which will irritate the stomach and cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain. Therefore, older people, or those with high blood pressure, high blood lipids, diabetes, long-term smoking, etc., should not be careless if they experience stomach discomfort.

2. Aortic Dissection

A 50-year-old man suddenly felt stomach pain while eating. At that time, he thought he might have eaten too fast and "got a shortness of breath", so he thought he would just take a rest. However, after resting, the stomach pain not only did not get better, but it gradually got worse. When he went to the hospital for emergency treatment, he told the doctor that he might have acute gastroenteritis.

The results of the examination showed that his disease was aortic dissection. There was a rupture in his aorta, and blood flowed into the middle layer of the aortic wall, forming a dissection hematoma. This disease is extremely dangerous, with a mortality rate of about 50% within a week. People with high blood pressure and atherosclerosis must be vigilant when they suddenly have "stomach pain" and do not judge the condition based on their own feelings.

3. Uremia

A 40-year-old man had repeated upper abdominal discomfort, nausea, and vomiting. He thought it was a gastrointestinal cold and thought he would get better if he stayed at home. However, after half a month, his condition did not improve and became worse. He went to the hospital for a blood test and found that his blood creatinine was over 900. He actually had renal failure and was already suffering from uremia.

The cause of his illness was long-term uncontrolled high blood pressure, which caused irreversible damage to his kidneys, resulting in water, electrolyte and acid-base imbalances, accumulation of metabolic waste in the body, and digestive system symptoms. In the end, he could only rely on dialysis to maintain his life and wait for the opportunity for a kidney transplant.

4. Acute pancreatitis

A young man in his 20s suddenly felt stomach pain while attending a drinking party. He thought that drinking alcohol hurt his stomach and that eating some noodles would relieve the pain. However, after eating a bowl of noodles, the pain did not ease, but became more and more severe. He was sent to the hospital by his drinking buddies and was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis.

Acute pancreatitis refers to digestive enzymes secreted by the pancreas being activated in the pancreas, causing the pancreas to digest itself. Alcohol consumption, gallstones and other factors are common triggers. Acute abdominal pain is the first symptom, often accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Severe pancreatitis can be complicated by acute multiple organ dysfunction and failure, which is a serious and life-threatening condition.

The above are all serious diseases that can cause "stomach discomfort" symptoms, but they are not related to stomach problems. If treatment is delayed, it is very likely to be life-threatening. Therefore, if you have symptoms of "stomach discomfort", you must be careful and vigilant, especially the elderly with underlying diseases. Beware of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Timely medical treatment is the right choice. I am pharmacist Huazi, welcome to follow me and share more health knowledge.
