Are cervicitis and cervical erosion the same thing?

In daily life, we often hear the names of women's gynecological diseases, such as vaginitis, cervicitis, cervical erosion, etc. These are the most common gynecological diseases. It is best for women to have a gynecological checkup once a year, and seek timely treatment if any symptoms occur. So are cervicitis and cervical erosion the same thing?

Are cervicitis and cervical erosion the same thing?

1. Cervicitis is caused by damage to the cervix during childbirth, miscarriage or surgery. The main pathogens are Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, followed by Gonorrhea and Tuberculosis. Among the malarial parasites, there are Trichomonas and Ameba. In special cases, it is caused by chemical compounds and radiation.

2. The causes of cervical erosion include reflex irritation or injury, such as sexual intercourse, miscarriage and delivery lacerations during pregnancy and erosion of bacteria leading to cervical inflammation; pathogenic bacteria erosion, generally common pyogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus aureus, Gonorrhea, Tuberculosis, viruses, Actinomycetes, Trichomonas, and Ameba can all cause cervical inflammation.

How to distinguish cervicitis from cervical erosion in clinical symptoms

The main symptom of cervicitis is excessive vaginal discharge. Due to different pathogens, scope and degree of inflammation, the secretions may be milky white mucus or light yellow pus, and sometimes they may be persistent or cause bleeding after intercourse. When the inflammation spreads to the pelvis, lower back pain and lower abdominal pain may occur. During a gynecological examination, it can be seen that the cervix has varying degrees of erosion, hypertrophy, glandular cysts or polyps.

Cervical erosion is one of the most common lesions in uterine inflammation. In clinical medicine, it is divided into three degrees according to the size of the total area of cervical erosion: mild, the total area of erosion does not exceed 1/3 of the total cervical area; mild to moderate, the total area of erosion accounts for 1/3-2/3 of the total cervical area; moderate to severe, the total area of erosion accounts for more than 2/3 of the total cervical area. According to the severity of the erosion, it can be divided into three types: simple type, granular type and papillary type. Cervical erosion and early cervical cancer cannot be distinguished from each other in appearance, so a cervical smear test and, if necessary, a puncture biopsy are required to confirm the diagnosis.

The above has shared with everyone in detail whether cervicitis and cervical erosion are the same thing. I believe that everyone will have a certain understanding after reading it. Cervicitis can often lead to cervical erosion, and cervical erosion can also lead to cervical cancer. Therefore, once a gynecological disease is detected, it must be treated in advance to prevent the condition from getting worse.
