When is the best season to eat chestnuts?

Now is the season when chestnuts are on the market. Experts point out that eating more chestnuts in autumn can prevent and treat cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Dr. Wang Jian said that chestnuts contain a wide range of minerals, including potassium, magnesium, iron (iron food), zinc, manganese, etc., which are higher than common fruits (fruit food) such as apples (apple food) and pears.

In particular, chestnuts are rich in unsaturated fatty acids and vitamins (vitamin foods), and are an excellent tonic for preventing and treating coronary heart disease, hypertension (blood pressure foods), arteriosclerosis, osteoporosis and other diseases, and for anti-aging (anti-aging foods) and prolonging life.

Eating chestnuts, cooking soup or porridge is a good choice. However, due to the high calorie content of chestnuts, eating too much can easily cause constipation (constipation food). It is recommended to control the amount of chestnuts consumed, generally not more than 10 per day. For patients with diabetes (diabetes food), it is best to choose to use chestnuts to cook soup or porridge, which is healthier than eating sugar-fried chestnuts directly (healthy food).

Precautions for eating chestnuts

Chestnuts are not easy to digest, so don’t eat too many at once. Chestnuts, walnuts, peanuts, etc. are all nuts, but people often say that chestnuts are more filling than rice. Why is that? Every 130 grams of cooked chestnuts can produce 100 grams of chestnut kernels, providing about 210 kcal of calories and 4.8 grams of protein, while 100 grams of cooked rice can only provide 120 kcal of calories and 2.6 grams of protein. In other words, compared with the same weight of cooked chestnut kernels and cooked rice, chestnuts have less water and more dry goods, and provide about twice as much calories and protein as rice. In addition, the dietary fiber in chestnuts is 4 times that of rice. Therefore, chestnuts have a stronger sense of fullness, a lower blood sugar response, and a longer hunger resistance than rice.

It seems that chestnuts are indeed difficult to digest, so don't eat too much at one time. More importantly, it's okay to eat chestnuts while they're hot, but if you eat them cold, they're even harder to digest. Because the starch in cold chestnuts will partially "regenerate", the regenerated starch can easily pass through the small intestine and become food for colon bacteria, causing gas and bloating. Therefore, you must be careful when eating. What can't chestnuts be eaten with? 1. Chestnuts can't be eaten with beef, eating too much can cause vomiting. 2. Mutton and chestnuts are incompatible: both are difficult to digest, and it's not suitable to stew or fry them together, and eating them together may even cause vomiting.
