HPV vaccination: On the road to eliminating cervical cancer (Part 2)

In the last issue, we introduced the dangers of cervical cancer and some issues related to HPV vaccines. This issue will continue to answer related questions and HPV vaccine-related precautions. Come and have a look~

What do you want to know most about HPV?

Q5: Is HPV testing required before vaccination?

Screening is generally recommended. However, even if the HPV test result is positive, vaccination is still recommended because the vaccine recipient is less likely to be infected with the types included in the HPV vaccine.

Q6: What are the possible adverse reactions after receiving HPV vaccine?

Pain and swelling at the injection site may occur, and in rare cases, dizziness may occur. These symptoms usually disappear in about 3-7 days. If you experience a serious vaccine reaction, please seek medical treatment immediately.

Q7: Is it better to get the HPV vaccine as early as possible?

HPV is mainly transmitted through sex, and the first infection usually occurs shortly after the first sexual intercourse, so the best effect of HPV vaccination is before a woman has sexual intercourse. The World Health Organization recommends that 9 to 14 years old is the golden age for HPV vaccination. But even after the golden age, clinical studies and years of application have confirmed that adult women can also be protected by HPV vaccination.

Q8: Is it true that people over 45 years old cannot get the HPV vaccine?

45 years old is the upper age limit set for vaccine clinical trials. There is very little clinical research data, so regular screening is recommended for people over 45 years old compared to vaccination.

Things to note about the HPV vaccine

Like other vaccines, HPV vaccination may not provide 100% protection to all recipients.

Vaccination will not cause HPV infection because the vaccine itself does not contain viral DNA;

Vaccination cannot treat existing infections and lesions, nor can it replace cervical cancer screening. It can only prevent diseases caused by the HPV included in the vaccine.
