Regarding the adverse reactions that occurred after children and adolescents received the new crown vaccine, Wang Huaqing, chief expert of the immunization program of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said that based on the monitoring and analysis of adverse reactions, the incidence of adverse reactions to the new crown vaccine in children and adolescents is no higher than that in adults over 18 years old.

Wang Huaqing explained that the general reactions after adolescents received the COVID-19 vaccine were mainly fever, local pain, redness and swelling. Abnormal reactions were mainly allergic reactions, which were rare but also occurred in some cases, mainly allergic rashes, which were relatively mild.

In response to the monitoring data showing that some children and adolescents had psychogenic reactions after vaccination, Wang Huaqing said that psychogenic reactions are non-organic reactions and are not adverse reactions. This situation can be prevented. When parents and guardians accompany their children to get vaccinated, they should relax themselves and try to prevent their children from getting nervous, which can greatly reduce the occurrence of psychogenic reactions.
